I think you will never have a good community for music discussion on the internet. (Well at least not an entire forum's worth) I think there are some great aspects of /mu/ that keep it from getting as shitty as certain online music communities, I'm over trying to fix it. I think that there will always be shitposting, you should just ignore it and find a thread that you can push the discussion forward in.

/mu/ is pretty similar to the rest of 4chan, but there's more trips and less bigotry.
