It kind of does. There may be some complexities I'm not picking up as I don't speak German but they more or less have the same vowel sound, which is what I was pointing out.

Do you know IPA? I pronounced both das and sauce essentially the same besides the first consonant. I'm not really sure what the difference between ɔ and ɒ is but I'll use the first one for this post. Keep in mind that I don't speak German (though I did take a class in high school) so my pronunciation of German could be a bit off but

Is how I pronounce those two words. If you're saying that das is pronounced with the vowel æ I'm pretty sure that's not right. And I do listen to German music and I've never heard it pronounced that way.

Though looking up a few sites, some have it listed as a, which would be somewhat close to æ. I think an easier way of doing this is that I pronounce it pretty much like the OS DOS. In any case this post seems kind of stupid and it seems I'm wrong anyway but that point I was getting at is that I'm pretty sure it isn't pronounced with the vowel like in cat, rhyming with mass.
