Is your local scene creating amazing music and totally not embarrassing at all?
>>
I live in a major city so there is amazing and total shit.
>>
I live in Austin so it has good, bad, and everything in between.
>>
>>52969328
>>52969341

So what's habbening? I'm in Ausfag land and apparently pretending to be Black Sabbath or Deep Purple is the way to go. Not a big fan of 70s rock so I'm kinda hanging my head here.
>>
Not at all. Every DIY scene I've experienced is not about the music and is pretty much a popularity contest / fashion parade. Virtually unrecognizable from any fraternity or bro party, just a slightly different kind of image obsessed posturing.
>>
>>52969375
There is everything here in Sydney. Some of my closest friends are in the music industry so I get a lot of good recs and access to some cool shit like private shows.
>>
>>52969377

This is all true.
>>
I don't even know if there is a local scene where I live.
>>
i live in a small city and the shitty nu-metal phase recently ended to be replaced by various pop-punk bands all wanting to be the next front bottoms
>>
>>52969388

>some of my closest friends are on Newstart.
>>
>>52969315
Actually... yes one of the bands from my town is starting to put out some good content, which is uncommon for a country with a shitty music scene like mine.
>>
>>52969315
>Gay Paris
>Not just listening a Fox Company fan
>2015
>>
>>52969405
Nah m8, they make a comfortable living.
>>
>>52969315
we've got one solid sludge band and that's all i know of

http://wampuscat.bandcamp.com/
>>
>>52969406
here's their single if you're interested.

>>
>>52969315
>Miami, FL
we got every combination of electronic music out there, fucking god tier
also got Jacuzzi Boys, hilarious and bro-status garage rock band
>>
I live in Nashville, so the competing scenes eat each other like cannibal sharks and no one supports anyone else. But there's always Birdcloud to keep us honest.
>>
>>52969438

pretty good

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCj6pjmpPSc

is my favourite local song
>>
>>52969426
Nice try, guy from wampuscat
>>
>>52969551
trust me, none of them browse /mu/
>>
>>52969438
this is very decent
>>
>>52969527
Cool! Definitely not bad!
>>
>>52969514
Nashville fag here. This is true. Better than Murfreesboro though
>>
>>52969388
What's the best oceangrunge band?
>>
>>52969601

>>
in my town:
>weekend warrior blues lawyers
>buttrock cover bands
>and now for a coldplay song
>terrible post-hardcore
>terrible pop-punk
>terrible rappers
>jam bands
>ableton faggots who all think they're the next gregg gillis

there was a fleeting post-punk revival thing happening but pretty much everyone who'd go to those shows was not too different from >>52969377

surprisingly the jam band scene is the only one that isn't filled with insufferable asshats

i'd give my left toes for a scene marginally interested in ambient, drone, experimental electronic, or even shitty post-rock
>>
>>52969633
:D
>>
I love close to Providence, there are some cool things happening but nothing with a real distinct identity
>>
>>52969377
The answer here is don't hang out in college town DIY scenes. All losers from high school that are learning too late what it feels like to be popular. DIY is just a phase they'll grow out of before they evolve into hipster lawyers so they suck at it.
>>
Minneapolis aka the most underrated music city around
>>
>>52969666
>or even shitty post-rock

you'd love denton and austin
>>
>>52969726
It's amazing here right now, what are you talking about dude
>>
>>52970090
i'm not too far from denton, actually, and had been interested in the town anyway. might be going to UT-dallas for grad school. austin sounds like a nightmare these days.

i dunno though. i'm too much of a basement dweller to get out and participate in a scene in any real meaningful way.
>>
Actually, yes.
>>
>my dream is to create music with people I care about
>bring joy into people's lives and inspire them with music
>make them forget their troubles and feel brotherhood and unity when they go to my shows
>I cannot be happy with my life until I achieve this
>yet someone with my passion and dreams somehow ended up living in the least musical country in the world

Man living in the Netherlands sucks
>>
I live in Copenhagen, the scene is great.
>>
>>52970217
That's because you're a pleb.

What's the scene there anyway? Only metal and faux-experimental shit, right?
>>
The one halfway decent venue in my town shut down last year. The only places left usually only take country and buttrock acts (Saliva played here recently).

I can confirm that this is accurate.
>>
>>52969666
>>weekend warrior blues lawyers
lel these are the worst
>>
>>52970242
Oh, there was also a really boring Christian post-rock band here, but now they claim they're from Nashville.
>>
>>52970247
On one hand I think that it might be in my favor, you know? I try to look at the bright side. No one knows shit about music here and all Dutch music was pretty much always shit. If I would come out with my show ideas, put in some avant-garde shit while keeping it listenable for plebs with potential, maybe it would be like a wake up call or something. At least I don't have a lot of competition.

I try to look at it positively but damn man, the Dutch literally can't feel music. They just can't do it. They can't into music.
>>
Ljubljana, Slovenia here. Yeah, there is some quite good music here, especially if we include the other ex-Yugoslav countries. But my home country of Poland has a much richer and more diverse music scene, there is no competition. It's a shame it's a much shittier country in general.
>>
>>52970217
You ever met any of the Posh Isolation crowd?
>>
>>52970278
well, Spinvis is pretty cool. and Boudewijn de Groot maybe. yeah, you're right. :(

LA here

There is so much going on that you can't really know everything that is going on and then comment on it.

Prince was at low end theory the other day. Pretty funny.
>>
>>52969375
I'm in Sydney and there's usually decent local acts at Goodgod
>>
So yeah, providence RI

It's great here right now. there's one band in particular I think is gonna start going places this year, they're awesome people and I can't wait to see if they take off
>>
>>52970284
A jak ty z Polski w Slowenii skonczyles? Mysle ze bedzie z tego dobry greentext.

>>52969591
Do you know anyone in Ten out of Tenn? How do they select musicians for their group?
>>
>>52969315
The members of Motionless In White live like a block from me. Then I went to school with a chunk of Title Fight. I think I lose.
>>
I'm from Bangladesh. We have really bad dadrock and that's about it. There's a small sized extreme metal scene that most of my friends are involved in. Otherwise it's just a sea of shitty heavy metal and metalcore. There aren't really any talented bands, atleast that I know of but theirs a really strong sense of community which is nice.I can't really play in a band though because of some health issues.
>>
>>52970455
what's Bangladesh like
seems awful tbh
>>
>>52970455
Any good grindcore bands?

Not much, but it's ok considering it's a nation of 3 million people.

I live in Belgrade, and it's not really amazing.
There are a lot of new punk bands, but most of them play the same shit local bands played 20 years ago. Rap game is shitty as fuck, mostly cause rappers either rap on shitty techno beats, rip off 90's east/west rappers or are the self-proclaimed defenders of traditional values and cocaine-fueled nationalism. Turbo-folk is ironically enjoyable, there are only a few good metal bands (Consecration, for example) and everything else is blander than photocopy paper. The only bands i love from here are Presing and Repetitor, that's it. Here are some decent bands:

I've been living in Chicago for two years and haven't found a damn thing

>>52970572
Are you joking? Chicago is on my list of cities to consider moving to. What kind of music do you like that you can't find?

I went to school with this guy. I think he's pretty good considering he's like 20.

Seriously it's so busy, like Amoeba records gets big names to play free shows at their store and it doesn't even seem any busier than it would otherwise
>>
>>52970651
Milwaukee, WI btw
>>
>>52970526
Oh man, Repetitor are awesome and they kill live. Now that they've toured Europe, I would love for them to become more popular. Unfortunately that's probably not gonna happen, for one reason or another. Presing are also pretty decent, thanks for introducing me to them I guess, they've got nothing on Repetitor though, frankly.
I really enjoy the 80s Belgrade scene, though. What's your opinion on it?

>>52970398
Długa historia.... ale jakoś skończyłem i nie mogę powiedzieć, że narzekam.
>>
>>52970651
This is awesome!
>>
Philly has a pretty good music scene
>>
>>52969315
live in a shithole in Brazil. Everyone in my state plays hardcore or metal. The alternative or indie scene is dead.
>>
>>52970469
Well to be honest I live in my privilaged upper class bubble so for the most part my life isn't any different from most people here. I mean I have to deal with the dirty roads, slow internet and wait a month before I get anything from Amazon but yeah. God forbid if you live here and you're poor though. From a cultural aspect it's even fucking worse. Most people mean well I guess, but they're also bigoted and ignorant. You get all these edgy contrarians on 4chan talking about fighting the degeneracy and all that retarded far right stuff but they have no idea what it's actually like living in a corrupt opressive government where the police can take out and throw you in jail for 2 days for "looking suspicious and instigating trouble" (Look long hair and scary clothes! Get that fucker!)

>>52970506
There's a few, one or two are okay I guess.
