What is your favourite genre invented in the UK?

Metal? Punk? Shoegaze? Britpop? Madchester? Jungle? Drum & Bass? Trip hop? Prog-rock? Dubstep? UK Garage?
>>
punk has 3 distinct starting points to choose from, none of which happened in the uk
>>
>>52968438
1 - Sex Pistols
2 - Malcolm McLaren
3 - ?
>>
>>52968444
both of whom readily admit they took their lead from new york
>>
>>52968444
Not the same guy but I think MC5, The Stooges and the New York Scene are some of them. The Ramones were playing punk about a year before the Sex Pistols started their movement
>>
>>52968465

Not to mention The Saints.

US punk wasn't born in a vacum, though. There had always been a sort of punkish element to a lot of British music leading up to it, and the Sex Pistols were just a natural evolution of it. Someone like Ian Dury had been playing punk for years before it actually took off. The US did punk as punk first, but that doesn't stop British punk from being an entirely British phenomena. Its really not as simple as pointing to who did what first.

But OP asked what our favourite genre invented in the UK was and listed punk as an example, implying it was entirely created there. UK punk wasn't born in a vacuum either.

the UK isn't in the same league.

Also you have The Electric Eels and Rocket From The Tombs from Cleveland
>>
>>52968524
And all those genres were invented thanks to you enslaving Africans for decades.

Is industrial even a genre though, really? I mean, Throbbing Gristle don't really sound much like Cabaret Voltaire, who in turn don't sound much like SPK.
>>
>>52968593
err, yes

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Industrial_music
>>
Britpop, not even joking.
>>
Britpop I guess. Which isn't really much of a genre.
>>
>>52968595

I'm aware that it has a Wiki article. Do you not understand what I'm getting at though?

*the black people of the US of A
>>
>>52968593
You're right, it's more of an umbrella term but it's commonly used nowadays to describe that certain UK movement (and some other offspring like SPK, Kraftwerk, etc.)
Though you could argue, if the genre today still exists and whether people are using it "correctly".

>>

I can pick opposites for every genre though too.

Nujabes sounds nothing like Death Grips
Shackleton sounds nothing like Skrillex
Scooter sounds nothing like Daft Punk
Joy Division sound nothing like Wizo
Etc

Half of those originated from white american culture

>>what is your favorite genre to come out of country /mu/?

Its a simple question to promote discussion about music from a certain country.

The only insecure people are Americans because the thread isn't about America.
>>
>>52968755

This. Americans are completely Americocentric. They know on a rational level that there's a whole world beyond their shores and borders but it's as if subconsciously they think there isn't.
>>
>>52968755
>>52968799
Its not their fault, its just how American culture works. Nationalism is pretty much mandatory in the USA. Look at how many movies and TV shows have the name 'American X/Y', and how they fetishise their military, and how they have to pledge allegiance in to their flag in schools. Look at how wanting what we'd consider basic rights such as universal healthcare is considered 'unamerican' and therefore invalid. Its okay though because its in the name of freedom, right?

Its like Americans live on a different planet sometimes.

It's funny because rap battles was actually an old norse viking tradition, and blues evolved off of Irish folk when britain enslaved irish people.

Of course though, white apologists will say "Africans created everything" so they appear politically correct.
>>
>>52969078
and here's that guy

I was waiting for you to show up
>>
>>52969078
The Japanese, scotts, and Germanic tribes also had "rap" battles.

Africans were already doing that for longer, but whites and asians were already doing that without the knowledge Africans were doing it.

It's funny because modern hiphop takes after the norse viking and scottish rap battles more than ancient African rap.
