Dammit. Should have posted Rules -.-

1. All forms of chords are accepted. Challenge me.

2. Wacked-out chromaticism has no place here. No A-A#-B-C-C# or any other of the like. If you mst be Chromatic, displace them like an actual musician.

3. Typing Random shit is acceptable so long as you follow rule 2.

4. Get Jazzy with it.

Immediately I note that Em is being treated as a 1 chord. Since it is minor, it has a b3. D gives it a b7 which removes Jazz/Harm/Melodic (except descending) from the picture. Best bets are Dorian and Mixolydian, Natural minor, favoring the b7 and b3 and ignoring the b6.

G Major is G Major. Duh. But that's a lazy answer so we'll get fancy... g Major has a Maj7 Since we're in a minor key, however, we have a b6 which gives us use of the Harm. Major key (1 2 3-4 5-b6 7-1). Ta-da. Just use the b6 rather than a regular 6. Adds a bit of screech to make it bluesy.

D is major, but it is also the b7, which gives it a min7 rather than a maj7. So what has a b7 and a maj3? Mixolydian. Boom boom pow.

Finally, A, which is 4. Normally 4 is Maj7, but because of its placement, it is min7 instead, with b3, b7, and a P5. Again, Mixolydian and Dorian are your best bets, avoiding b3 in Mixolydian and taking it with Dorian.

All in all...

I've had that for a while and can't figure anything out that sounds good over it.

I like progressions that have a descending chromatic line in the harmony. I heard it called a cliche line once because it's used so much in pop. Anyways here are a couple

ami - fmi - C - G - E7 - ami

c#mi - Caug - E/B - F#/A# - D/A - B - E - C#7 - f#mi/C# - D - E7 - f#mi - C#7

lay lady lay- A - c#mi/g# - G - bmi/f#

Another short one I really like is G - E - A -D add dominant 7ths to any of them
