Yup, it's pic related.
Good luck finding it, I lost my only copy to a fire and never got to digitize it. ;_;
>>
>>52761943
so for room mics you'd prefer something less sensitive than a condenser so it can be further from the source?
do you mix or do a lot of work in post or just scrunch it up and bounce it out?
>>
>>52762281
no for rooms you want a really sensitive mic, like a condenser, because it needs to pic up the reverb and distant details.

i do noise reduction, some eq if needed, clean up any weird sounds that get in there, maybe add some reverb if it needs it
>>
>>52762186

How fucking sad is that?

>grab important papers and shit from a drawer and gtfo

>some sort of gooey tar on fire
>>
>>52762340
oook that makes way more sense than what i said.
how the heck do you get rid of unwanted noises like someone dropping a program?
>>
>>52762444
it's usually impossible to completely get rid of it, but you can make it less or not noticeable. spectrogram editing software, I use RX. it can also wipe some of the mic hiss out too, which is a big deal when you don't have $20k mics and preamps!

I think I would just fall on the floor right there and let the fire consume me lol
>>
>>52762420
very sad. I'm scouring google, because why the hell not and it's a whole bunch of shit about how great the album was

>>52762443
this is like the beginning of a movie that's about seeking revenge for your destroyed albums, but at the end you find out the person who set the fire was some kid fucking around, and you can't bring yourself to pull the trigger even though you cared about that album more than you cared about yourself
>>
>>52762485
spectros are incredibly weird to me, i dont get them at all. gonna go google a bit about them. thanks for the answers!

Want to try making downtempo. Should I start with a melody or a beat? What should I look for in downtempo sounds?

can I get opinions on the mixing of this track? Been working on it for a couple of days, a fresh pair of ears could help

Gonna drop this in again as it took me a while to get this info together, hope its helpful to some anons

Some free plugins I use:

HOFA:

HOFA 4U free pack includes a very handy project timer, a meter, fader and MS-pan,also a meter/analysing plug.

http://hofa-plugins.de/en/plugins/4u/

Vladgsounds:

Limiter №6 free limiter
Molot compressor free compressor
Nova-67P parallel dynamic equalizer

All 3 of these plugs are really good quality and free

https://vladgsound.wordpress.com/downloads/

Valhalla:

Valhalla Freq Echo Great free little echo unit for dubs and delays

Valhalla Vintage Verb for $50 reverbs don’t get much better than this

https://valhalladsp.com/product-category/plugins/

Toneboosters:

TB Barricade free limiter

all other Toneboosters plugs are very good and I would suggest demoing them all. The track essentials bundle is an absolute bargain at less than 20 euros and includes the following:

TB Ferox
Tape simulator. Add the warmth and punch of analog tape right within your audio workstation
TB Module
Modulation and delay effect. Chorus, echo, phaser, tremolo, auto-pan, tape delay,…
TB TimeMachine - Bit depth and sample rate reducer.
TB Equalizer
TB DeEsser
TB Gate.
TB Reverb
TB Compressor

wuts dat? what is its function?
>>
>>52763459
Well they all sound slightly different, Its not a complete guide just a few free plugins and a few recomendations for cheap good quality ones. I was hoping someone might put them in the wiki as it was looking like they were trying to build up a list of free plugs

I guess a lot of companies do free compressors and limiters so thats why theres a few

Is an M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 worth $75 and 53 minutes of driving?

It's missing the cap of a knob.

>>

>>
>>52763938
No Problem

Toeboosters is the name of the developer that makes the plugins. The function is described in the info example:
TB Ferox is a Tape simulator. Add the warmth and punch of analog tape right within your audio workstation. I didn't add all the descriptions for each plugin as i thought the rest were self explanatory i.e. Gate is a gate, Reverb is a reverb.

Go download them and have a play with them.

The Tonebooster ones are really good as when the demo runs out you can still use them although you can't save the settings so when you come back to your DAW the knobs will all be set to default again. A simple way to get over this is to bounce down the tracks your working on before saving...or buy them as they are cheap as shit

I'm looking for a good Spectrum Analysis VST. I'm also not really sure how VST's work but I'm sure I can figure that out. It looks like RN Digital Inspector is no longer available for download? If I get an older version with Ableton 9 still recognize it?
>>
>>52764387
Thank you. I'll try and come up with some more once I've got a bit more time. Please bear in mind most the tone booster and valhalla Plugs are't free but as I mentioned before are pretty fucking cheap and they sound great. I'd highly recommend trying the Valhalla VintageVerb, it may look ugly as hell but its one fantastic sounding reverb.

I didn't notice that. Thanks anon!

I'm trying to get feedback on this mix still. It's a final live demo of a band I've mixed and recorded. I spent probably 6 hour on the mix total. Here's my gear:

7x SM 57's, 1x SM 54a Beta, 1x SM 58, Project Firestudio interface, Ableton as a DAW.

Right now my monitoring is total shit. I have some $100 Alesis nearfields and not very reliable headphones. Currently saving up for some Avatone Mixcubes.

Anyway here is the song

>>
I'm new to /prod/ (been producing for literally 2 months) is there any essential plugins for sampling? I use FL Studio.
>>
>>52764977
edison and slicex work fine. then you can drag them into fpc, or dl a drummachine/sequencer if you don't like fpc. I usually fuck with samples on the playlist grid, but whatever works for you
>>
My god I love DAW manuals.

My first Renoise project, been working on it since I woke up and took me all day. Kinda generic if I say so myself; it's not finished but I'm happy with it. What do you think, /prod/? Audacity fudged the beginning a little bit.

but... Am I supposed to make my music hard to decipher?
>>
>>52762784
whatever works for you, but i find starting with a beat allows me to "fill in" the spaces in between with a melody that fits the tempo. thats just me though

>>52762968
i think the background noise could come out a bit more
the bass near the end is cool but a bit loose and ill-defined, idk maybe you were going for that but i think it'd help to have it tighter
percussion knocking thing thats panned around seems a little too present to me

>>52763198
thanks, went on a plugin kick and now i have 2gb of new stuff to play around with

>>52764790
sounds way too wet for me. i get thats the shoegazey style but the chords take over the whole thing esp in the beginning. compress them or something and lower the levels? add more delay on the vocals.

>>52765439
>>52765486
uh, maybe you can take the flanged signal and track it separately because while i like the effect it is a bit much
also
>cool synths arpeggio
>Bb in the middle is fucking loud out of nowhere
>>
best mic for guitar recording?

>inb4 hurrr just DI everything

>>52765977

Ok, ok. I had the ammount on 100%, can't blame you guys lol

>Bb in the middle is fucking loud out of nowhere
watchu mean
>>
>>52766161
i think he means that effect you did that made the basspart loud. the song is awful, but that ending sequence, the part that you started to bring in around 53 secs, sounded cool, maybe work with that melodies like that more.
>>
>>52766161
"The velocity of the note B flat is higher than that of all the other notes." probably
>>
>>52766161
so theres an arpeggio, but for some reason the middle Bb is ridiculously loud compared to the rest. starts around 0:40. i dont know if maybe you had an eq boost there on your whole mix or something, but it's noticeably louder than any other of the notes there and it hurts my ears
other than that its ok

I actually stopped working on it years ago, I just found it my archive hard drive and enjoyed it. I'm not sure I'll be working on it anymore tbh. Thank you for feedback though anon, it's never seen the light of day
