What's your favourite prog rock band? I love Gentle Giants.
The Power And The Glory is so fucking based all the way through
>>52668938
the mars volta is my fav. I don't really care for gentle giant
>>52668938
That album cover is so 1970's. And that's why i fucking love it.
>>52669018
whats wrong with gentle giant
>>52668938
I'm listening to pic related at the moment.
It's Doom+Prog (in 70's style).
My favorite band is Gentle Giant too. Acquiring the taste is their best.
>>52668938
King Crimson
Others favorites are Genesis, Can and Yes.
I'm curious about Gentle Giants.
>>52669018
I don't really like the mars volta, but i only listened few songs... suggestions?
Steven Wilson is my dude. Not so much PT, but his solo albums especially with Raven as of late are really intersting to me. Really excited for his new one in February.
>>52669236
Listen to Acquiring the Taste, Octopus, In a Glass House and Free Hand.
The Power and the Glory is good too, but it isn't in the same level as the rest.
>>52669236
First, it's Gentle Giant and not giants. Second, there is no entry-way collage of GG so all you can do is to immerse yourself into the album until you start to like it. But i suggest you to start of with something less eclectic like VDGG.
>>52669289
The easiest album to get into is The Bedlam in Golaith, but if you already like prog, try Amputechture, it's by far their proggiest.
>>52669236
King Crimson are really good too.
>>52669123
nothing, I just don't care for their aesthetic very much. Not my cup of tea.
>>52669340
No love for Frances The Mute
>fucking Cassandra Gemini
>>52669391
FtM is their best album, but not a good starting point to get into them, it's easy for people not accustomed to the style to get lost in what's happening.
>>52668938
You better lie low!
When the future is architecture by a carnival of faggots is unknown, you better turn the light on!
So, if you turn the light on! Bang, you can count the black points!
Tyrone, is this bingo bingo cash cash? It means, the money is rolling by itself... why I don't buy me a 600cc bike and fucking crash again. you fucking pig wills and soilwork plebs.
>>52669423
>fake english
damn i'm impressed.
Does somebody know Area?
>>52669545
Yeah, i do. Crac is better than Arbeit Macht Frei.
>>52669340
>The easiest album to get into is The Bedlam in Golaith
You're kidding right
Rick Wakeman and Yes of course
>>52669608
I like them both, but i love luglio agosto settembre (nero)
>>52668938
what did you guys think of pic related? I'm not usually one for "feels" but this track hit me pretty hard
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIoDRnoalrg
>>52669838
>SKYHARBOR
I've been meaning to listen to them.
Thanks for reminding me anon.
>>52669838
I really wanted to like it because both the singles were good but it felt a bit bland. Solid, but bland. Even the singles now bore me.
It's basically a less dynamic version of Breaking Orbit, and the title track has nearly the exact same melody as Silence Seekers
It's not bad though, and they're on the way up
Also
>not being one for feels
I bet you have a gf
>>52669690
it's a ridiculously straight forward hard-rock album with some minor prog elements. Jesus christ it won a grammy.
>>52669236
>Can
>Prog
>>52670384
But it's easily their weirdest. I remember listening to that ages ago as my intro and thinking it was god-awful ear rape
Took me so long to actually give them another chance because of it.
>>52670453
Well, some people would argue that Kraut and Prog are related.
Gryphon, Yes, Camel, Genesis, Return to Forever
>>52669289
I think they are one of those bands where it's best to listen to them chronologically
>>52670453
How are they not prog?
>>52670610
agreed. start with deloused in the comatorium
>>52670545
Return to Forever are fantastic, but they're more Jazz Fusion than Prog.
Who Magma here?
>>52671078
Me.
Where to go after your pic? I want more but I can't seem to find more
>>52671122
They have a lot more material anon.
Look in rutracker.
>>52669236
I feel that after King Crimson all other prog seems boring. They were the peak of the genre.
>>52670639
listen to a genesis album then listen to a can album
just cause its long rock music doesn't make it prog, I don't think.
>>52671196
Anything from them goes? I loved the whole Zeuhl style
>>52671122
For Magma: listen to their discography in order. It's all great.
For Zeuhl: this pic is fine, but replace Vrresto with Hyderomastgroningem and Elixirs with Five Suns
>>52668938
now this is a prog vinyl thread
I got free hand and interview for free working at a shitty record store/cd store
>>52671258
Great, thanks.
>>52671225
shub-niggurath, univers zero, weidorje, eskaton, archaia, dun, guapo, art zoyd, happy family, koenjihyakkei, athanor, bubu, cos, paga, ruins and universal totem orchestra
in this particular order. after that you can explore less known groups
>>52671225
Oh, then check their next two albums. If you like them, listen to all of their material.
For Zeuhl, check charts and this: https://rateyourmusic.com/customchart?page=1&chart_type=top&type=album&year=alltime&genre_include=1&genres=Zeuhl&include_child_genres=t&include=both&limit=none&countries=
>>52671308

>>52671566
henry vii and journey to the center of the earth are in just about every dollar bin i've ever seen, good stuff too
i just recently got this vangelis album for 50 cents, they had thrown it in with all the classical albums that are always less than a dollar because they saw it was on deutsche grammophon I guess
>>52671566
>>52671685
what album was it? ive got a lot
i only have journey to the centre of the earth by wakeman. got it for a dollar and played the fuck out of it
>>52669201
Is it anything like Black Hole?
>>52671685
oh the album in the picture lols never seen it. it looks cool though. checked it out on the net and it says 5/5 dark ambient shit. its in between a lot of my later vangelis. i have soil festivities from that time in vangelis' career then direct is 88 those 85ish
>>52672148
>>52672330
i have another copy of look at yourself same press and another good condition of magicians birthday
>>52672379
>>52672379
i also ahve talking head's naked on vinyl too...need to step up my discogs game
>>52672148
>pink floyd: a collection of great dance songs
why lord
>>52671930
I haven't listened to them, but the genre descriptions in rym say yes.
>>52672330
i fucking love Flex-able
>>52668938
Nektar or Pink Floyd
I like Space prog
>>52668938
King Crimson is still my favorite
they have way too many great albums
>>52671199
This.
>>52672933
eh, they're probably the best of the major ones. but there's still plenty of territory they didn't cover that other bands did that's fantastic. see: close to the edge
>>52671205
kek.
There are a lot of stylistic and historic similarities between prog and krautrock. Different artists can sound very different even of they belong in the same genre. Prog isn't "stuff that sounds like Genesis"
My favorite prog rock band and one of my favorite bands is Rush. Favorite albums 2112, A Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres. Alex Lifeson is a great rhythm guitarist. I think he can create a good balance of heavy hard rock riffs that are progressive and accessible. What other prog rock bands would be most closest to Rush?
>>52672998
i mean like, prog is in my mind stuff that's very heavily composed. can would just jam for hours and piece together those jams in the studio. the style is just so different. I guess it depends on what you want to define "progressive" as
>>52670477
It's not weird at all, especially not compared to their early stuff. DiTC, Tremulant and FtM are weird as all fucking get out, most people instantly dismiss them because their first 3 albums are impossible for a lay person to easily comprehend. TBiG, Octahedron and Noctourniquet are all super accessible pop-rock/hard-rcok albums. If you don't like psych or prog, they are the easiest way to get into them, if you like prog, the Amputecture is the way to go, if you like Punk and hardcore, try Tremulant. Save DiTC and FtM until you can handle the weirdness
>>52673121
Early Dream Theater.
>>52673121
I dunno about you but as someone who hated them at first I think they got progressively less accessible until Bedlam which is a total fucking mess, then slowly came back. Deloused is by far the best entry, and their best because of it. Inaccessible TMV is garbage.
>>52673165
This was for>>52673041
>>52671205
Ok I listened to Invisible Touch. Is this what prog is supposed to sound like? I guess "I Can't Dance" doesn't really sound like Can at all, so Can must not be prog.
>>52673165
I don't understand what you're trying to say.
>>52673121
I agree with the other anon, you've got this totally backwards
Bedlam ain't accessible.
>>52673178
oh jesus, just go back to p4k already.
>>52673191
i think you fucked up twice.. trying to respond to rush guy, I presume?
>>52673194
very funny
I've been jamming to this a bunch lately. I don't think I have a favorite prog rock band, but King Crimson is pretty high up there.
>>52673255
yea im drunk sorry
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFb1AqXsm3w
no love?
>>52671205
As a huge Genesis fan, I would like to say that your statement was fuckin' retarded.
