Cities Aviv - Come To Life
I love this album. Sounds like you're dreaming.
Anyways, other AOTY contenders for me:
>Iceage - Plowing through the Field of Love
>Dred Collective - WLFGRL
>Benal - Hiphop
>Shabazz Palaces - Lese Majesty
Can't remember the rest.
ai aso - lone. minimal singer-songwriter stuff.
runner up: cassie ramone's (of vivian girls) debut solo album.
also i liked death grips. and the swans. tbk was more enjoyable on the first listen than was the seer, however it does not have much staying power on repeated listens.
I can dig it
TBK kind of grew off me :/
I still cant believe people thing that wlfgrl even comes close to a contender for AOTY for anybody.
I know everyone has opinions. but like really? Like how seldom do you listen to music if that is one of your AOTYs?
also I know I am
>IMPLYING BIG TIME
>TBK kind of grew off me :/
the seer is still strong though. for me at least. i still never got around to listening to that keiji album. it looks so goofy i am very intrigued.
yeah The Seer is still gold after two years, great stuff.
The Haino album is pretty goofy in a way, I mean it's called The Greatest Hits of the Music ffs, but it's real good fun, didn't expect a really fun plunderphonics album. its a real blast dammit
will i like this if i have never listened to sunn but have listened to all of scott's 2spooky albums?
>will i like this if i have never listened to sunn but have listened to all of scott's 2spooky albums?
if you liked those 2spoopy albums, definitely
Watashi Dake? is pretty great and gets right into the meat of the matter. Or just pick your favourite other japanes artist and see if Haino has collaborated with them. chances are he has ;)
incredibly hard to say because he has such a long and girthy career. the album that got me into him was a challenge to fate. which is really really damn good and is fairly varied. there are also a few guides around the internet to help.
this one actually looks alright.
i disagree for watashi dake? to start but cannot eloquently state why. just a feeling.
i did but not as much as the drift.
haha that sounds great thank you

Best Track: Future - Benz Friendz ft. Andre 3000
My popular music Album of the Year. It's Folk mixed with Neoclassical. A real journey of an album.
Not liking something that other people do does not automatically mean you have good taste. What it does mean is that you're a posturing contrarion with special snowflake syndrome.
this was just okay. he hasn't really done anything that great since smalltown shining. this was just derivative singer songwriter stuff with some gimmicky electronics hamfisted it. really seems like he's grasping at straws on this record.
is this really the best thing you've listened to this year? that's a bit depressing. you should listen to more music.
I like the nostalgia mixed with the fuzz-rock
Gerard should do a proper song with Bowie sometime, it'd be fantastic
What's the most boring album of the year?
fuck everybody who doesnt enjoy this
I loved it. It gives me chills just to think about listening to it with my dad, who loved Pink Floyd, and so I grew up listening to them with him. Damn, I'd love to smoke with him to this...it's a great background-conversation album, maybe for some kind of chill party
But my AOTY is Taylor Swift's 1989, no doubt.
Runners up being Home Like Noplace Is There, Three Love Songs, and WLFGRL
but I still got some other 2014 music to listen to so it might change
That was my opinion on it too. People need to stop looking at it as a true Pink Floyd album and rather as a collection of work that Pink Floyd created, and appreciate it for what it is. At that point, it's an average record, but there certainly are enjoyable moments. The first side is really good.

Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra - Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light on Everything
Can't pick one
>tfw no AOTY
Recommend me things
Also I changed my mind Otta was shit but I can't bother to take it off
Rays of Darkness is the frontrunner
High hopes for the new Mike Patton and world's end girlfriend stuff, this has been a weak year
Not his best work but easily the best out of the few albums I've listened to this year.
>don't pretend that you don't love it.
Don't need to pretend. It was a boring generic by the numbers pop album with no soul in it at all.
thinking of adding this one because it is very good, i just haven't listened to it in a long time.
+the night country, coffins on io, last of all the field
boris and mono were disappointing :/
can someone explain why rtj2 is so well regarded because I really don't get it. never been a huge el-p fan anyway outside of company flow and cannibal ox
>best rap album
I thought The Last Dawn was really disappointing but I was absolutely blown away by Rays of Darkness. Best thing they've touched since Palmless Prayer IMO
Any stuff off your list you'd recommend me? Not recognizing much album art as I've been out of the loop for most of the year
Swans was the big disappointment for me
Thank you, anon. Checking out Worsen right now.
In return, pic related is my AOTY. Can't get enough of this.
I'm making a top 10 of the year for a magazine I'm reviewing for. So far this is my top 20 but it's not done yet and things may shift around
FATIMA AL QUADIRI
most of my tops are house/techno/bass/grime LP's but this one right here still topped everything because i think its stupidly overlooked along with his first LP from 2010, White Magic.
>>52060485 sweet taste right here
Why was this Xiu Xiu album so underrated?
I guess pic related
I think he was being sarcastic.
Not even kidding. I think this and 3 seashells are the most overlooked albums of the year. SO fucking good.
>A lot of y'all lettuce green you need to edit more
>And sit back and think about the reasons you said it for
>And understand that all language is metaphor
>And if you headed for a wall, you better set a course to a door
>And if there's no door, you better get a door
>And if not, just look and see what you saw
>And with that saw cut yourself in half
>And two halves make a whole so climb through that
>I climb through raps to worlds untouched
And unsullied by human language
come on niggas
It's not an edgy opinion.
They had something going for them. They were attaining a level of sonic interest and experimentation unparalleled.
CLPPNG is them selling out for the popular label they signed to.
Not AOTY, but still pretty good. Saw them live earlier today, fucking fantastic
All strong contenders, but none really top pic related or Genitalia Garden - Croatian Amor
>They were attaining a level of sonic interest and experimentation unparalleled
Not really. Noise-hop is not a particularly recent discovery
You're welcome to call CLPPNG 'selling out', but I'd call it branching out. Experimentation is futile if there's no end goal in sight, and Midcity was nowhere near as realised as CLPPNG was.
Maybe not AOTY, but it's a late comer that has really stirred my shit up.
0. Jenny Death
1. Busdriver - Perfect Hair
2. Ratking - So It Goes
3. Isaiah Rashad - Cilvia Demo
4. Todd Terje - It's Album Time
5. Sisyphus - S/T
List is subject to change, downloading >>52065664 now
not his best but def album of the year for me
For me and everyone else.
Pom Pom came out of nowhere for me, really great album and it was my first time listening to Ariel Pink. Top 3 are probably TBK, C-93 and Ariel Pink, with the Jenny Hval and Grouper album being strong contenders. Freddie Gibbs is Hip-Hop aoty, was kind of let down by RTJ2 even though it had some great tracks and I saw them live and they were amazing. Here's hoping for a new burial release this month.
yeah well fuck you, I thought it had some great tracks. Had to Hear, Past lives, talking backwards, crime, the bend all great songs. Was it safe? Yes. Was it enjoyable? Yes.
I know a lot of people thought it was overrated and not that great but I fucking loved this album.
This or Benji.
Yeah, The Waters and Clppng have been my favorites for this year, Benji had some good tracks on it, I liked it, just about as much as I liked The Waters, so.
Can you post the names to these please? Of the ones I recognize I like. Also, why don't you have Ben Frost on your list? Seems like it would be something up your alley.
1989 isn't AOTY because it is musically vapid, simplistic, trite, cliched, and overdone.
Who gives a shit if its well done mainstream pop? A well made Tootsie Roll isn't the greatest candy of all time.
You're a fucking plebeian who listens to plebeian garbage, so you don't understand this.
Just please listen to records of substance...
Sorry, I wouldn't use any of those adjectives to describe her incredible knack for pop songwriting complete with incredibly catchy and pleasing melodies throughout the album. Aiming to write songs that can be liked universally is nothing to be ashamed of.
The argument can be made that music itself is 'overdone'. Like any genre, pop music is filled with cliches.
What I find excellent about Taylor Swift's latest album is that her pop music and her ability to create it has stepped to a level beyond the vapid, simplistic, and trite cavalcade of pop singers-rarely-songwriters desperately trying to get on (and stay in) the Top 40. The album is like a raised standard bar for how good pop music should be to compete nowadays.
>listens to plebeian garbage
Damn, assuming my entire musical taste based off of one album I heard this year? Or is the idea that patricians can't like any pop? Perhaps it is also that a person must pick one style to listen to exclusively?
Ugh, typical /mu/.
>greatest candy of all time
No one in this thread is discussing anything GOAT.
I wonder if you'll even reveal to us your surely-fantastic patty-approved album of the year. Or maybe we don't deserve to know...
Best thing Haino-san has put out in the past five years, potentially ever.
These are contenders
These are not
>LOOK LOOK AT MY AOTY AND MY TOP TEN FAVOURITE ALBUMS OF THIS YEAR, THE NUMNBER ONE OF WHICH IS THE AOTY
>YES, YES, I AM AWARE THAT THE LIST IS THE SAME AS EVERYONE ELSES, YET IN A DIFFERENT ORDER
you must feel special for replying to all those anons, anon
Dunno if it counts, since it's technically a 2015 release
>searched entire thread
>no Salad Days
are you even trying, /mu/?
>What I find excellent about Taylor Swift's latest album is that her pop music and her ability to create it has stepped to a level beyond the vapid, simplistic, and trite cavalcade of pop singers-rarely-songwriters desperately trying to get on (and stay in) the Top 40. Except it's just a step down from even Taylor's previous albums. The song-writing and lyricism moves away from her knack for writing pop songs that can be sincerely affecting and full of nuances towards aping what everyone else is doing.
Andy Stott wins my AOTY award for the third time.
This guy is just too fucking good. Need to see him live at some point.
Drop The Vowels and Bad History were great too.
Can't believe I'm the first to post this image
these are the only ones i would put on the top. i could probably list a few more if i went through my itunes and looked the albums up. im forgetting a bunch here
I get the feeling that this is going to get a negative reaction from most people on this thread, but seriously - this album is incredible. It crept up on me - they released my least favourite of the album (Repine) as a single, and after hearing it wasn't hopeful for the album. But jesus christ, i just cannot stop listening to it. It's subdued, expansive, heart-wrenching and cathartic. Weirdly, even though there are no screams, it still sounds exactly like a PBTT record.
This year has been awful for rock music compared to the past few. Nothing exciting or new has happened. I'm tired of feeling obligated to listen to each subsequent Swans/Iceage/blah blah blah release when it's clear that they don't have anything left to say.
I don't have a favorite because that would imply I've heard something from this year that wasn't mediocre.
Don't care if you call me a weeb, this was the best shit to come out this year.
