That was my opinion on it too. People need to stop looking at it as a true Pink Floyd album and rather as a collection of work that Pink Floyd created, and appreciate it for what it is. At that point, it's an average record, but there certainly are enjoyable moments. The first side is really good.

Pom Pom came out of nowhere for me, really great album and it was my first time listening to Ariel Pink. Top 3 are probably TBK, C-93 and Ariel Pink, with the Jenny Hval and Grouper album being strong contenders. Freddie Gibbs is Hip-Hop aoty, was kind of let down by RTJ2 even though it had some great tracks and I saw them live and they were amazing. Here's hoping for a new burial release this month.

What I find excellent about Taylor Swift's latest album is that her pop music and her ability to create it has stepped to a level beyond the vapid, simplistic, and trite cavalcade of pop singers-rarely-songwriters desperately trying to get on (and stay in) the Top 40. The album is like a raised standard bar for how good pop music should be to compete nowadays.

Except it's just a step down from even Taylor's previous albums. The song-writing and lyricism moves away from her knack for writing pop songs that can be sincerely affecting and full of nuances towards aping what everyone else is doing.

I get the feeling that this is going to get a negative reaction from most people on this thread, but seriously - this album is incredible. It crept up on me - they released my least favourite of the album (Repine) as a single, and after hearing it wasn't hopeful for the album. But jesus christ, i just cannot stop listening to it. It's subdued, expansive, heart-wrenching and cathartic. Weirdly, even though there are no screams, it still sounds exactly like a PBTT record.

This year has been awful for rock music compared to the past few. Nothing exciting or new has happened. I'm tired of feeling obligated to listen to each subsequent Swans/Iceage/blah blah blah release when it's clear that they don't have anything left to say.
