I understand that thought process entirely, and it's hilarious the ignorance of buying a bigger camera makes you better etc etc, but i'm at the point where i'm ready to go onto larger sensors. I've gotten storyboards written down, all to be ruined by my lack of equipment. The amature look of the "DSLR" look to me degrades the overall quality of the product that I would be looking for in the music videos i'd like to shoot, and the story doesn't digest as serious as it's intended to be. Don't get me wrong, DSLRs have a BEAUTIFUL image to them, but there not for every project. For an example, documentaries, i'd shoot it on a Mark II and 35 or 55MM primes. In the end, your right, the story is more important than anything else, but I personally feel the image quality adds to the foundries of successfully telling the story correctly.

Fair enough, you make a good point. I guess I've become quite cynical because the amount of people I've met that dismiss classic films just because they're not pristine in image quality has frustrated me, and I see the exact same people trying to make films with high-end cameras and equipment and struggling to do anything worthwhile with them.

I've personally always believed that if the content is strong enough then technicalities such as image quality shouldn't be an issue. But it seems like you're not the sort of person I've met on my film course and isn't relying on a good camera for superficial reasons, so that's good to know that there are more people like that out there. I personally have preferred the use of DSLRs, the NX5 and any camera I can get a hold of, due to my budget being tight (I'm not wealthy) but also because I was taught that it doesn't matter what camera you use but how you use it, and I have to agree with that too as many great films with shoestring budgets have just been filmed with whatever was available. So i'd like to apologise for my cynicism if I came across as cold or malicious as that wasn't my intention, it's just studying filmmaking with people I know has made me frustrated.

Not at all my man, all good. I'm personally glad you're focusing on the story board, as you'll get way further than any other rich parents filmmaker wannabe faggot son will get with his fancy RED. And my apologies if I came over as one of them, as that's not me at all, but personally making serious storylines, I have to make the image look as professional and clean as I can, otherwise my projects end up looking like a middle school project, making me look silly, and leaves the viewer with nothing but cringe. And hey, the NX5 is a sturdy little guy, I mean i'm only shooting on a T3i with a basic 50mm lens kek. It's not too bad though, I can get the documentary look, which is nice.
