37 hours of the same song must have been tough, OP.
>>

In a row?

>>51320795
Set Fire to Flames was great, very godspeed-esque. Also loved Do Make Say Think and Stereolab, which I hadn't heard before. I also have newfound love for Mogwai and Swans. Hex - Bark Psychosis was a pleasant surprise.

Silver Mount Zion got a little tiring after a while, as well as Fly Pan Am, and I did not like Talk Talk very much at all.
>>
>>51320795
I dunno if you've heard How Lonely Sits The City! by the Ascent of Everest but I think it's pretty good

Even though it is pretty damn atmospheric, it fits in more with space rock shoegaze than it does post rock.
>>
Why do you guys like post-rock so much? I can't ever enjoy it, too bland
>>
>>51322609
Have you listened to Discreet Music by Eno?
Thursday Afternoon?
Imagine something like that but with tension and release.
Not bland at all.
>>
>>51322572
No, the literal reason why is because the guitars aren't twangy enough. If Ladies And Gentlemen had twangy guitars then it would have been considered post-rock.

>>51322847
I'm arguing for why people doesn't consider the album to be post-rock. I'm serious, there is a certain distinguishable guitar texture to almost all of the albums known as post-rock.
>>
>>51322992
Honestly if you don't at least see that then I don't know what to say to you.
>>
>>51322748
It's really repetitive, and the tension and release are all like "muh crescendos" but don't build musically, just texturally. Or at least that's what I've found
>>

What post-rock have you listened to?

This list and dividing post-rock into waves is so retarded, first of all, the whole list is the top 40 equivalent of post-rock, and second, the retard that came up with the "waves" concept thought that "first wave" bands and its sound died on the "second wave" and the same with the second and third.

If anyone want god-tier post-rock recomendations just write me up with bands you like or the type of post-rock you want (influenced by ambient, as an example)

I'd rec Pluramon if someone was interested in krautrock and wanted an easy entry point to that as well as post-rock. Render Bandits is pretty solid imo.
>>
>>51323555
u wot
>>
>>51323110
I remember listening to random bands I was suggested from these sorts of threads, dont remember most. I tried GY!BE and I tried a bunch of Swans (only got through the Seer) and uhhhhh I actually don't remember any other specific names. Some had some jazzy trumpet parts and some other shit idk (in the ones i dont remember the name of) and I remember thinking they were emulating really contrived jazz.
>>
>>51323538
It seems you like post-rock influenced by meal and math-rock. I'd recommend these:

>Year of no light (post-meal)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHf7TimSfrM

>Pelé (math-rock)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnPbXOWzG1g

>Caspian (post-rock influenced by metal, not entirely post-meal)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMdvdpHph9U

People might call me a faggot for mentioning Caspian, but they were literally the first post-rock band that I discovered and I still like them as much as when I first discovered them.
>>
>>51323110
I also remember liking >>51323515 when I was a lot younger
>>
>>51323446
I guess I'll see if you know what you're talking about

My favorites are Slint, Do Make Say Think, Sigur Ros, Swans, and June of 44

>>
>>51323657
EITS is mostly just ok

I'd try listening to more first wave like Tortoise, The Sea and Cake, and Talk Talk

Also some good non-first wave artists are Do Make Say Think, Under Byen, and Caspian. You would probably like them

Definitely try Shipping News, Rodan and The Sonora Pine.

It should be noted that June of 44, Shipping News, Rodan, Rachel's and The Sonora Pine shared most of its members, I got more into them after Jason Noble died.

>Shipping News (post-rock influenced by American Primitivism)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pDiCtkJB-w

I don't know whether it's intentional or not, but their shit sounds a lout like American Primitivism. Also, you can skip to minute 2:00 if you hate the long intro.

>Rodan (post-hardcore with some post-rockish moments)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hweqMd5gDJw

>The Sonora Pine (unique post-rock hard to describe)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9gur-GBNFE
>>
>>51323737
This just sounds like their ripping off a stereotypical western movie soundtrack, on top of bland it sounds gimmicky

>>51323748
I'll try some out I guess, thanks
>>
>>51323748
Although I think I've tried Caspian. Oh also I really like Toe, mathy pretty guitars are great (which is why I've been getting into a bit of emo tbh)
>>
>>51323264
I was my mistake to say almost, all. I really meant "almost all albums that are more commonly known as post-rock". Like, the better known albums. Remembering i'm arguing more on why the particular album isn't considered post-rock, than if it's actually post-rock. Hell I actually agree that Ladies and Gentlemen is post-rock

My point is that there is a difference between what albums actually fit within the description of post-rock, and what albums fit within the more common/popular standards of post-rock. I was arguing the latter.
>>
>>51323831
Rodan is fucking great

I'll be sure to check out the others
>>
>>51324279
>stereotypical western spundtrack
>bland and gimmicky
You don't know what you're talking about, and it shows.
>>
rip Friendo

the only poster besides Sprid who has decent taste in post rock
>>
>>51324545
How? I've watched a lot of westerns, and I've listened to a lot of music. Seems to me like I know enough to make my own opinions
>>
>>51324586
What happened to Friendo?
>>
>>51324685
>i've listened to lots of music
lol, no you haven't >>51323617
these are all massive bands within post rock and you don't know shit about any of them
you also used gimmicky to describe an influence when you don't even understand that the lounge and space age pop of the 50s and 60s had a much bigger impact on that band's sound
the only similarity to "westerns" (the group is from the american southwest and draws their influence from local sounds)
you also used bland to describe a track that had both top tier production values and fine crafted melodies which develop musically as opposed to ""texturally""

People like you need to stop coming into these threads, you don't know anything and come only to spew your uneducated opinions.
>>
>>51324927
janitor has a butt fued with him
>>
>>51324446
Also, the farthest I've gone with post-rock is Toundra, Exuast and Ariel M. They aren't too far from /mu/core, but they are outside of it.
>>
>>51324977
>leave thread after thread ruined by deleting half of them and leaving the other half dead links because Friendo derails every thread he posts in

Who is even worse, the autistic janny or the autistic tripfag?
