It's a horrible rap album and the only reason its original is because the flow is too stupid and shitty for anyone to use. All he does is talk about how other rappers suck
>>
This is a much better mixtape

tbf, how many debut tapes (as in FIRST tapes, not like O.D. by Kendrick) have been really good before 2008.

Death Grips - Self titled
Nas - Illmatic if you want to consider that a tape
Camp - Lo Uptown Saturday Night
>>
>>51049158
Unoriginal and boring.
>>
i can't. you're right.
>>
honestly its hard to say what could be considered the best mixtape of all time, but its def not bastard, that had like 2 really good songs on it and the rest was sort of just flat.

if i had to name some pretty good mixtapes:
action bronson and party supplies - blue chips
charles hamilton - and then they played dilla
lil wayne - dedication 2
lil wayne - no ceilings
jay electronica - what the fuck is a jay electronica

if i had to choose, probably dedication 2.
>>
Yeah. My mixtape on soundcloud.

opinion disqualified

unoriginal yeah boring no.
>>
>>51049065
You clearly haven't listened to Bastard then
>>
>>
>>51049359
lil waynes mixtapes were pretty critical and most hip hop fans were bumping them. theres nothing wrong with them. the musics raw and as real as you can get, the beats are good, and wayne wasnt really that bad stylistically before he went huge.

backpackers are so closeminded and dont want to acknowledge music made by mainstream rappers can be good.

Bastard may be one of the most unique mixtapes of all time... but 1999, Cilvia Demo, Duality, Acid Rap are all better in my opinion. (and thats only looking back the past few years0

the problem with duality, 1999, tylers shit, etc is its music made to appeal to white people which goes against everything hip hop stands for imo

Nothing wrong with Captain Murphy it's just he's hipster hop
>>
>>51050029
actually he's shit
>>
the lack of reading comprehension in this thread is hilarious

but to answer op Cilvia Demo is better
>>
>>51049865
Here's the thing

You're complaining that artists like Odd Future, Pro Era, Captain Murphy etc only tries to appeal to white people because why? It's not supporting violence, crime, and rap about how gangsta they are, but why does that mean it's "white people hip-hop" It would make more sense if they wanted to appeal to mostly people in the suburbia or just want to make alternative hip-hop, but that doesn't mean they're trying to make themselves less black. Artists usually rap for people that are like them.
>>
>>51049903
>that were recorded after Illmatic came out

That mixtape came out in 1991 though
>>
>>51050159
violence and crime and poverty and wanting to make it big is how most hip hop got its start. its inherently more real than niggas like of who came from posh suburban background and rap about stupid bullshit they think will appeal to white nerds. they arent making themsleves less black, but they are definitely not in touch with the black community at large.
>>
>>51049578
Do you actually believe that Tyler's lyrics, flow, and production on Bastard were better than LLA?
>>
>>51050234
I think he only made a 2-3 track casette with demo versions of Illmatic tracks. No mixtape.
The one you posted has a couple of tracks from the It Was Written sessions (Deja Vu) and other random stuff.
>>
>>51050294
>but they are definitely not in touch with the black community at large

But the black community is not just the ghetto. A rapper doesn't have to be from the ghetto to rap and that's not what's Hip-hop is about. Sure, it's a big plus to take a rapper seriously, but gangsta rap isn't the only thing that sells. Artist like A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul proved that long ago. Just need some good production and rap good.

>>
>>51049544
fucking love this thing to be honest
>>
>>51050529
thats not even his debut.
>>
>>51050294
>not rapping about violence and crime and poverty and wanting to make it big
>therefore not in touch with the black community
i dont know what to say
>>
>>51050476
we have to be honest here, the socioeconomic situation for most black people was (and is) not good and thats what most "real" hip-hop stemmed from. its easy enough to agree that having good production and not being ignorant doesnt automatically make you a real rapper but subject matter can really set you apart. de la soul and tribe called quest were rapping about issues within the black community so their subject matter was still real, they just approached it in a more intelligent matter. there music wasnt made solely to appeal to a very lucrative market of white, suburban hipsters like most "alternative" hip-hop nowadays. and yes gangsta rap isnt the only thing that sells, but thats not really the issue im talking here.

also hip hop started in the ghetto, its roots are in the ghetto, and at its core its about expression of a marginalized people and rebellion against certain values
>>
>They are calling Bastard a mixtape now
>Probably because of a wikipedia page syaing it is

Oh ok
>>
>>51049716
are you 16 yet?
>>
>>51051729
>also hip hop started in the ghetto, its roots are in the ghetto, and at its core its about expression of a marginalized people and rebellion against certain values

Proof that kanye fans are not real hip hop fans

he helped tear down the low riding gangster image of rap tho so I think we gotta be thankful for that. he showed that black people could dress well and be known for that as opposed to only wearing suits to award shows. He took the rags away and replaced them with ralph lauren and louis vuitton. He is a hero
