Why are there so many genres of EDM??? What's the difference between 'house' and 'drum and bass' since they're basically the same thing?

This year was clearly deep house's, but next year something new will slowly start to emerge, but I can't tell yet, unlike the last few years where it's all been extremely predictable.

I enjoy the DJ / producer lifestyle, I've been there and done it and I want to go back to it. Even if it wont earn me much money, I'll still be happier.

But realistically, given how the scene is, you need to be quick and doing the right thing at the right time, so anyone with the slightest intention of making a living off this knows that "make whatever you want" wont get you far unless you're creative and good enough to pioneer a new interesting sound.

It's not danceable enough, it's not a friendly genre. The occasional dnb track is well recieved and played, but the mainstream wont be interested in full-on dnb sets. Sigma, Wilkinson and a few others made some awful yet radio-friendly tracks, but there's always a handful of those every year, no matter what year.

I think that yearly handful of tracks is the closest dnb will ever be to mainstream.
