HI /mu/ this is a cassette thread. Not a "TAPES SUCK STUPID HIPSTER!" thread.
For those of you that enjoy tapes, run labels, or are just interested in tapes this is the place for you. Go!
Been buying a lot of tapes lately got these for free the past weeken
>she's probably somebody's only light
>gonna shine tonight
i have this and a couple local ones from defunct groups.
i dunno they look dirty. possibly diseased.
What is the one on the very right and the one to the left of it?
okay- my wishlist:
>Julia Brown- to be close to you
>Little Kid- Logic Songs
>Weakling- Dead as Dreams
>Burzum- Hvis lyset tar oss or Filosofem
>any of Darkthrone's big three albums
>any Three Six Mafia or affiliated or other 90s Memphis tapes
hmu if you have any of those and i can make a throwaway email and we can either trade or i can pay you lots
so fucking jealous of your Brown Horse tape it's clearly an AOTY contender for me.
You're from montreal right? Cuz I'm sure no one outside of montreal would have a Brave Radar tape. Great EP.
This is not hating but a legitimate question. Why even collect tapes? If what you're looking for is sound quality, then vinyl is arguably the best choice, if you're looking for portable music then might as well get an Ipod.
toro y moi - body angles, only a run of 50
hand numbered insert/signed by chaz
Nah I'm actually from Atlanta, Georgia. All those tapes are canadian tho. The two on the right are from a guy in Halifax named robert loveless and above brave radar is homeshake. Im in to those scenes big time
Are they rare or something? I got it for like 5 bucks at a flea market
idk if it's actually that rare but it's just like my favorite album. and flea markets near me are not that patrician lol.
discogs says it sells pretty often for pretty cheap, so i'll keep my eyes peeled
I was gonna buy I Am An Exit by Born Gold today but apparently just bought the digital album off bandcamp bcause i was drunk for the same price. Sad day. I dont even care about tapes, just wanted to keep shit going since I have his first two albums on vinyl.
damn son how much did you shell out for this
sup vinylcollective user
here's my orchid tapes collection including LPs, sorry for the shitty picture quality though
i also have rules by alex g on tape and posthumous release by coma cinema on vinyl. favorite label out there right now
Here's my collection. It's mainly local stuff with a couple exceptions.
I also run 5CM Recordings. Two new releases out yo.
I just found out about them a couple months ago, obsessed with the stuff they put out. How did you get the angeltown 2 tape? Do you live around where they do the showcase?
i actually got it off some random storenvy very recently (like a month ago) for $20. they're out there dude, just gotta look
still kicking myself for not copping that operation doomsday tape set, but at least it doesn't make me pressured to buying nehruviandoom. it was a little pricey though
any cassette labels with an opening for a new artist? I'm looking for someone to produce some cassettes for me
haha how was i an ass? i just said to google. i can't rip it sorry man.
take, do u, soaker, 2day is the day, salt, untitled.
ye buddy. ive been listening to robert loveless non stop so glad i got that tape since it sold out
here's a track from it i found. and holy shit it's really good. i cant get on soulseek right now cause of my uni's network but you could look there. if you find it will you put that shit on mega?
recent aquisitions. also have a Destruction Unit tape on the way alongside a Jonah Ray album & some 25i
how do those doom tapes sound? i've been meaning to pick them up for a while
i've got a copy as well. they don't go for too much sadly
i have home language by benjamin poole and lifter by eureka, both are excellently dubbed and put together. highly recommended. i don't know if little kid is a /mu/tant too, but i have his river of blood demos tape and i love it to death as well
i just googled it one day, it was there, and i impulse bought it. no regrets.
I don't think their that expensive, the production costs around 3, and the shipping costs from 3-4 dollars. so really i dont get much out of it. I shipped one international and ended up spending around 9 dollars in costs
Check out my personal label
Suburban Campers - First Two EPs
Thank you so much /mu/ for your support almost out of aqua blue tapes! We just ex paned the album with the band's first ep as well.
It's awesome they sold out what did you think of moon slave did you email to see if he had more?
favs being De La Soul, Ty, and Good the Bad the Ugly soudntrack
$40 - first edition tape of swung from the branches by foxes in fiction. most i'd spend is something like $100 if it was the right release that was just rare enough.
i'd pay $100 for like a this is a long drive promo tape or any of the first modest mouse tapes, or any of the original roman candle cassette masters. that's pretty much it
$20 for Transatlanticism. I paid $7 for Exmilitary when it was still in stock and it was stolen from me.
I'd probably pay upwards of $50 for the Joyce Manor demo tape or the same for Brush Your Teeth by Dads
I would have spent over 100 for this tape bit was able to track it down for 7 bucks somehow
pressing of my band's cassette. guy did it pretty poorly but i was just glad to see music i was involved in making on tape
hate to self promote but for anyone reading this it's this
if you like it don't buy the tape just download it, i'm gonna press more tapes on my own so this guy doesn't take any more of my band's money lol
Where did you get your Destruction Unit tape from?
Pic related is what I have so far. 7 more on the way.
it's just fun- most people here probably listen to their cassettes pretty infrequently. the ones i listen to often are from certain genres that i think are more fun on cassette like black metal or noise or certain kinds of really nostalgic drone or ambient stuff.
otherwise i buy because its cheaper than vinyl but lets me give a bit back to the artist. and aesthetically i think theyre cool. also a lot of the bands i like cant afford to put out a run of vinyl but still want to have something physical that is less soulless than a CD
i dont think tape fans do have the whole superior posturing that vinyl fans can sometimes have. people who are into tapes are usually at least a little bit aware that they sort of suck but like them anyways.
Here's my collection I'll also post pics of the tapes from my band
Euphoria again and padillion in the mail
Here's a pic of the two main cassettes I've put out
My modest collection. Got a couple of cracker Dub Techno releases from Coppice Halifax coming in the mail too, can't wait.
Mad fucking jelly of that Tapefuck tape. Had the chance to get the first pressing of it but they didn't ship outside of the US at the time, the jerks.
These are the only tapes that i've spent money on so far, though i have over 100 tapes of random shit i dont care about that much and a bunch of blank cassettes that im going to use for exclusive self releases.
Twins signed by Ty Segall
i own only 2 cassettes
AF signed by mike
a live cassette from my uncles power rock band from the 80s
i plan on getting one from my friend in florida of this
i dont rly like physicalmusic much since possessions way me down but then again i just bought 30+ vinyls in the past 3 days so i cant rly talk
I love everything real estate related some of those old ducktails are perfect. Here is my cassette real estate collection. I also have reality ep
Got STRFKR, American Football, Madvilliany and more Xiu Xiu on the way
I started a tape collection mainly because over the summer I would go for long walks around town every day and kept passing these second hand shops and they sold a bunch of tapes
I thought starting another collection of another music medium would be fun, plus they're super cheap (unless they're rare, which is part of the fun)
I started buying them since sometimes c/s is the only physical format to own
I like supporting small artists so if they choose to put stuff on tape, I'll buy it. Vinyl is my preference but tapes are cool and they grew on me.
I started out on tapes when my aunt gave my a tapeplayer with headphones years ago
I personally buy tapes from labels that specialize in tapes for the most part. Analog music recorded to tape for tape, and not released any other way. Plus they seem more personal Someone folded the insert and put in the little scraps of paper with the stamp that promotes the label. They numbered them, and they put love into it. That's part of it for me.
I don't pick up a lot of albums that get releases in other formats, if an album is released on vinyl I'll probably get that instead. But every once in a while an album kind of makes sense on cassette. It could be dark and brutal or airy and drifting, but sometimes the music compliments the medium, so there's that.
The limited runs are fun, and finding rare ones (just like with records) is kind of a thrill in itself.
oof that's fuckin awesome. my favorite ty record aside from Lemons
>AF signed by mike
ugh i hate you. i saw They're/Their/There back in may and talked to Evan Weiss but wussed out of talking to Mike Kinsella, first time i've ever been star struck by an artist
Anyone gonna get the Awesome Mix Vol 1 cassette?
My dad had his tape deck just sitting in his closet so I thought it would be fun to give it a listen and eventually started collecting some new tapes (the last 3 on the left)
hahaha holy shit dude this is hilarious, but i'd advise against posting it in very tape thread or people will think the whole tape community is a meme.\
honestly i'd be down to buy some Hall and Oats tapes next time i see some at goodwill or whatever thanks to this picture, that shit is smooth as fuck and this picture reminded me of it.
