Everyone I've known that plays in a band in those genres is a 20 something lower middle class white dude with facial hair and like two pairs of jeans with holes in them and puts pretty much all of their disposable income left over from paying the rent and buying weed and cigarettes into buying pedals and new amps

Fanbases might be pretentious or disingenuous but the musicians themselves rarely are
