>Offer to drive a friend 3 hours to see his sick mother in the hospital
>We're pretty close, and in the few years I've known him, he's gone from being completely disinterested in music to liking bands like New Order, Pavement, REM, and Echo and the Bunnymen, etc.
>Generally seems to have a pretty open mind to a lot of music, however, it was only recently that I was able to convince him that there was more to hip-hop than "thugs talking in auto-tune about being in the club"
>Anyway, so we get in the car and start driving and my ipod automatically syncs up to the stereo, playing what was on last (a playlist consisting mainly of Jungle Hits Volume 1 and 2 and a few tracks from Ragga in the Jungle and a couple other comps)
>Volume is at a medium level, loud enough to hear, but not so loud it's obnoxious
>2 minutes into the drive, my friend says "This music is weird" and I just sort of nod my head and focus on getting on the highway.
>After another 10 minutes or so, my friend says "Can we turn this crappy dubstep off?"
>I reply "Oh, do you not like it?"
>He laughs and says "No this shit is awful. Listen to this guy. He can't even sing at all. I don't think he's even singing in English!"
>proceeds to do a very poor, mocking imitation of Cutty Ranks, going "UGGGAHHH OHHHHH YEEAAAAAHHH ALLLAH AKBHARR-AAAA"
>I'm starting to get pretty irritated, but I just say "Fine, fine. You can put on something else"
>He unplugs my ipod, tosses it into the backseat haphazardly and plugs his phone in
>Says "Anon, that was a funny joke and all. Now, I'm going to play some REAL music for you."
>starts playing Bluegrass music at a loud volume
>I glance over at him; not a hint of irony whatsoever
>He starts bobbing his head and singing along to every word

bumping with the based message from Dr Drum Beats Studios:
You can be inexperienced and still put out Billboard-quality beats that will make the girls want to shake it all night long.

When I first started using this software, I'd never created a beat before in my life but a couple hours later I played back my new beats and they blew my mind, I'd laid down a track that was better than some of the local DJs were pumping out at night.

And... that was my first day!
Everyone wants to lay down sick beats, but most of us have been led to believe that you have to be a producer with swagger and have a lot of talent.

You think the equipment is going to be too expensive or you'll have to spend years getting it right.
But the truth is, with Dr Drum helping you lay down the beats, it's easier than you'd EVER imagined.
Other DJs just want you to think it's harder than it is, so they seem like the ballers on the block but you could be setting up tracks that will blow them into the stratosphere!

Well it took me about an hour and a half, but I made a Jungle/Bluegrass/Folk music/Old timey twang song.

I tried to construct it out of like 3 different existing bluegrass/folk songs from the 1940s.

Oh and I fucking used Audacity to make it because Ableton was taking too long to torrent and FL Studio is shit.

This is some pretty wild stuff. when you fuckers said deep house, i wanted more shit like this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1txVyyLkb6g

not so much pic related

so what is the link actually called, 2nd wave deep house?
>>
>>50201332
most people around here call it ladhouse as a derogatory term
>>
>>50201332
i dunno what to call it tbh. 'bass house'? 'pop house'? i wouldn't call it deep house cos if you've noticed it doesn't really sound much like deep house haha
>>
kek
>>
>>50201360
so wheres the ladhouse chart then

because the deep house on this chart is incredibly uninteresting
>>
>>50201387
so you would call this "pop house"
not a loaded question, just curious

>>

>because the deep house on this chart is incredibly uninteresting

LOL ok mate

acquire a music taste and come back then. in the meantime i'm sure the local vest-wearing cap-toting stella-downing quiff-styling #LAD would be able to give some recommendations
>>
>>50201392
>>
>>50201411
that is mix is like that kinda stuff which bridges the gap between actual chart house music like secondcity and the underground. it's the kinda stuff that eats everything plays in his DJ sets. i dunno what to call it, it certainly isn't deep house in the traditional definition so i don't know why everyone started calling it that. either way most people here aren't a fan so you're better off getting some recs elsewhere
>>
>>50201439
you seem very mad

>>50201498

So I'm new to electronic and I can't find anything as good as Burial. I've gotten a lot of recs like Lorn, Machinedrum and Flying Lotus but none of them reaches the level of feels I get from Burial, am I fucked? Is there really nothing else like it? I'm not talking about sounding exactly like Burial, I'm rather looking for something that has a similar bleak "feeling" and is very atmospheric, while being relatively straightforward and not entirely ambient. I hope you guys can rec me something.

I'm looking into it. Could you explain what the difference is between Dubstep and Grime? Are these considered Grime?
>>
>>50203113
these are considered dubstep, but these tunes in particular are very heavily leaning towards uk garage. grime and dubstep are 2 separate evolutions of uk garage. grime first appeared around 2001 and dubstep around 2003

typical dubstep (not like the hessle stuff above):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtElB7CYv1s
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Jd6FIQjck8

typical grime

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bpg-NqSttA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-Y4cbWxMxM

typical uk garage
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMo607wRgdM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFKj8V7Av0I

grime is mainly designed for MCs in mind, for them to spit bars over the top. but instrumental grime without MCs necessary is made (see kahn & neek - percy that i posted above)
dubstep is made with a heavy emphasis on space and low frequencies, and is designed for "meditating on bass weight".
>>
>>50202979

>Volor Flex

This is kind of what I meant before, I listen to it and it's like this is exactly what I'm searching for, but the problem is it sounds way too much like Burial, and in that case I'd rather listen to Burial. I'll give it a full listen though

>Balam Acab

This is way more interesting so far, listening to Wander/Wonder, definitely will download

Ohh I think I get it now, just one more thing if possible, where does "Future Garage" figure in all of this?
>>
>>50203482
irrelevant internet meme genre 2008-2011.

i guess submerse is good but at the end of the day anything decent to come out of that genre is just garage anyway it was such a stupid name.
>>
>>50203482
"future garage" is a rather shit term applied to a style of modern house music that takes a lot of influences from uk garage. i don't really know much about it, only that it seems to be the most widely inappropriately-used label in dance music outside of maybe "deep house". either way i don't think it has much relevance in 2014

>>50203502
