Brave is such a good album. I prefer Marillion w/ Hogarth to Fish-led Marillion, by far. If you like this CD, you'll love Marbles. Just be sure to check out the 2CD version with Ocean Cloud on it.

Marbles was the first album I listened to by them, Neverland is a fantastic closer

So this past month I finally caved and started listening to Genesis & Gabriel. As a huge fan of the Moodies & Crimson I finally caved. I haven't went any further than The Lamb and I don't know if I really want to after the disappointment of Bruford leavin Yes.

Looking at Genesis though, they really were just the middle ground between Crimson & Yes, However they pulled it off better than Yes ever could.

>>49323432
It really is, I don't know why Egg don't get more credit at times.

The best Yes song is Then, Even without Wakeman and Howe, the band starts to find their feet.

Also Yes without Bruford are a soulless monster driven forward only by Squire's desire for money.

DSOTM could be switched with another album. I feel like it's only in there for recognition's sake, but at least it isn't The Wall.
Tarkus' absence is a bit worrying when Lateralus is creeping around there.

There's some really nice J-Prog from the 70's & 80's. I'd share a few albums but my HDD died recently. Your best bet is to lurk on Japanese BBS, My girlfriend has found some really nice stuff that way.
You may also want to check out some of the listings on Planet Mellotron, it can really help.

So fucking close to being a good list too. I know some people might consider listing The Brondesbury tapes as just being a duplicate, but both are worth it, and if one has to go, let go of TCIOGG&F because The Brondesbury Tapes are better, we can lose North Meadow and One in a Million if we really need to.

Honestly, it's not that it's an over-exposure of Fripp, but rather that Level 5 & TCOL are not both essential, especially not together. One can be replaced with McDonald & Giles which is more likely to be buried than The Nice.

If I had to nominate a Progressive Rock song for the best song ever, it would probably be War by Henry Cow. It's just 2 minutes and a half, but it has so many high and very emotional peaks. Plus, the concept of it is excellent. Listen to it if you haven't!

Also, I'm listening to Lincoln by They Might Be Giants. Is it just me or the first song is far better than the rest?

Could someone explain to me why the closers on every Gentle Giant album are significantly worse compared to the rest?

Also, Playing the Fool is the best GG album, if only for the Octopus medley alone
>>
>>49328524
Why? I also like it a lot, but the melodies are not very creative and it's very repetitive at times.

>>49324376

I understand what your saying about it being repetitive, and i agree (don't even love checkmate tbh, always skip it)

But to me, this album gives such a unique vibe that no album has ever given me. my favourite part is Second Spasm: the krumhorn break and the epic adventurous part after that is highly ranked in my mind as to what music should be like.
