First half of 2014 has been great so far, so post what you're really into right now! I'm having trouble finding good releases this year that aren't sort of dark or heavy (as you can tell by my list)
Recs (from this year) would be nice.
wow that list is a joke
I have barely listened to anything this year that's really surpassed this stuff. If you have better albums for me, then I'd be more than happy to listen to them
literally every post you make is asking for spoonfeeding
>tripfag being a tripfag

literally no use for you on this board based on this post

>First half of 2014 has been great so far
No it hasn't.

Joyce Manor sucked. Hard Girls is the better band by far.
why didn't you like the joyce manor record? its pretty much a GBV worship record and its great just for that. melodies are fantastic, some cool instrumental breaks, etc
Robin Williams
2 soon ='(
1. Alex G - DSU
2. Perfect Pussy - Say Yes To Love
3. patten - ESTOILE NAIANT
4. Naomi Punk - Television Man
5. White Lung - Deep Fantasy

That's really all that's stood out to me for albums that have come out this year. Some stuff I've been really into that I hadn't heard until this year:

Team Dresch - Personal Best
Mekons - Fear & Whiskey
The Fall - Step Forward 7"

Those three I've probably listened to more than any album this year, except maybe Alex G.
the new boris album isnt on anyonbe's lists, is it not worth the listen?
>GBV worship
Are you sure you're not thinking of their second album?
>its pretty much a GBV worship record
It has way more in common with the late 90's/early 00's pop-punk radio shit than GBV. Maybe it's just too produced for me. The hooks feel pretty unnatural, as well.

And the lyrics are bad (even aside from the "You could be your own dad" line) but it's Joyce Manor so I don't know why I was expecting anything more.
the best so far
that one applies too, but the new one really hit home the influence imo. sure there are a few tracks that are a bit more 90s pop punk too.

>absolutely no mention of Lighght

Does nobody like Kishi Bashi?

My fav of the year, easily. Lots of good stuff out so far though. No idea how I'd actually rank it, but I'm also really looking forward to the new Esben and the Witch.

Rough top 5 would be:

Lighght (Kishi Bashi)
Dead (Young Fathers)
Enter the Slasher House (Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks)
To Be Kind (Swans)
Chiaroscuro (I Break Horses)
mah nigga
i don't see why it gets so much hate
Who the hell hates it? It's nice.
bumping for other's top 10
>White Suns

that reminds me that i have to listen to the new Botanist record
I really enjoy it but god it's almost too much to take in all at once, it's so overwhelming upbeat, y'know?
He's incredible live btw and he's really friendly
He's in the UK in October I think. Would love to talk someone into going with me.
I see very little love of niggas on the moon here
hey gene

If you can't find anyone you should still go alone, it's worth it. My gf that night but I went anyway and still had a great time.

Excellent album, perfect for summer too.

Why is FlyLo already on your list?
*my gf was sick that night
cause lets face it. Its going to be good. And if I'm wrong no harm done, just take it off. Its only taking place of some random ambient album I like of off bandcamp.
Honestly, I agree. That 2 minute sampler has me incredibly hyped, it sounds like the kind of album I've been waiting for for a very long time.
same goes for The Winged Victory album as well. From what I've heard, its going to be such a tear jerking album. But again, If I'm wrong, I'll just take it off as well
Elastic Empire Coronation is an absolutely unbelievable closing track and the rest of the album is pretty great too. There are a couple weak tracks but overall it rivals the quality of the s/t and OTC albums

I liked this much better than her first album, but it seems like that's a pretty unpopular opinion
I think that they're both great and probably equal. I am surprised by the overwhelming disinterest on here for The Future's Void. Cthulu might be her best song yet.
its good, but really hard to judge since there is a part 2 weighing on our minds
1. Fennec - Let Your Heart Break
2. Madlib/Freddie - Pinata
3. Actress - Ghettoville

>2. Manon meurt - s/t

OP here, this is definitely climbing up there. So good.
Going by last.fm scrobbles.

The Antlers – Familiars
Real Estate – Atlas
Wild Beasts – Present Tense
The War on Drugs – Lost in the Dream
The Pains of Being Pure At Heart – Days of Abandon
Future Islands – Singles
Hundred Waters – The Moon Rang Like a Bell
The Hotelier – Home, Like Noplace Is There
Young Fathers – Dead
Freddie Gibbs & Madlib – Piñata
Cloud Nothings – Here and Nowhere Else
Timber Timbre – Hot Dreams
It's perfect. Easily AOTY.
I ripped low-quality mp3s from the private soundcloud Nick emailed to everyone who donated to the album (me). There are 2 bonus tracks on here as well.

I highly encourage you to support Zammuto with $$$ as I did, Nick is a genuine and amazing musician and individual.

this album is really fucking good. It has gorgeous vocal melodies surrounded by some ambient tunes and sampled recordings from god knows where with an ample amount of distortion mixed in. It's like stripping away beauty from something pleasant like the album cover does
i like it but it's not amazing by any means. the best track is the opener
new pharmakon soon
1. Swans - To Be Kind
2. LCD Soundsystem - The Long Goodbye
3. St. Vincent - S/T
4. Sun Kil Moon - Benji

7. Timber Timbre - Hot Dreams
5. Have A Nice Life - The Unnatural World
teach me to like phamarkon
Listening to this for the first time right now. I don't like it so far.
I felt that way and then I saw them live and gave it another shot and it clicked for some reason
not him, but its not as good as the last release i feel. It's still really good, but Part Two totally feels pointless to me, but Part Three is their best work, One and Four are pretty much extensions of Exit! Part One from last year.a
I'm on Bankrupt and I am enjoying that track.
my chart by the way

i gotta listen to more 2014 stuff
Only albums I've really liked are:
>MadGibbs- Pinata

>Rome Fortune - Drive, Thighs, & Lies
>Rome Fortune - Beautiful Pimp 2
>Q - Oxymoron
>Rashad - Cilvia Demo

that frameworks packaging is legit gorgeous and the intro mixed with the first track is incredible but i don't really care after that. i'm sad bc dudes are local and doing really interesting stuff sometimes but kinda dropped the ball in my opinion
Sure is p4k in here.

any good hiphop this year?
i enjoyed shabazz' latest much but more would be nice
Isaiah Rashad's Cilvia Demo was good, if you don't mind something less experimental than Lese Majesty.
this sounds cozy as fuck, thanks anon

also how fucking good is motion sickness?
Agreed, but in my opinion, it's the flow of the album that makes it great. Songs blend wonderfully into each other.
which is an interesting contrast from black up, where every song seemed like a project of its own, lese majesty feels more like floating through some rad hip-hop space and everything is good. really neat album.
Not quite AOTYSF really but I'm listening to it a lot and I don't understand why they don't get more love here

If you like shoegazey noise pop (read: heavy JAMC influence) why aren't you groovin to this?
De Oro, Cilvia Demo, Word OK & Pinata

Best for me so far has been Welcome To Fazoland. Lyrics aren't amazing, but his delivery has got a lot of energy and it's got some great beats.

>de oro
did not ask for mayoskins making talkmusic

yeah this would be so bland were it not for him sounding like he's getting tired of restraining how pissed off he actually is. really nice as well, thanks anon

Freeman - s/t
nothing else compares
>all the BBNG high ratings

What's the appeal of this? It's simple beats over simpler jazz. But on second thought, that is what probably makes it so popular among other jazz releases. Just something for teenagers to think themselves having better taste.
also have heard since i made this charty chart:
Tara Jane O'Neil - Where Shine New Lights
Artificial Brain - Labyrinth Constellation
new woods album
Trepaneringsritualen - Perfection & Permanence
Ricky Eat Acid - Three Love Songs

didn't realise i was rec'ing for a bigot, please ignore all of my suggestions and seppuku at your earliest convenience
Because Raveonettes is shit. Easily the most boring Danish live act as well.
does nobody like frankie cosmos anymore
Boogie's "Thirst 48" is a pretty good listen. Not too much lyrically but he's got an old school vibe about him and some catchy hooks that have kept me coming back.
Also Chimurenga Renaissance, Mick Jenkins, Schoolboy Q, Allan Kingdom and Lucki Eck$ just to throw out some that people havent mentioned
How the hell do you already have Flylo on your list?

but anon you listed 8
Well yeah I wrote that before writing all the ones I've heard. It was an approximation, not far off the mark.
>foliage - singles

ayy lmao
I decided I'd never listen to that due to how annoying it is popping up around here so much, so I don't know if its actually any good. Is it or is >>49106699 foliage?
You went over the mark by 60 %. That's quite a lot.
i think he may have just put it there as a joke, but anyone could always be foliage

and its horrible
Percentage doesn't matter, the amount does.
Sisyphus - Sisyphus

Hey could you please upload Captain Blowhard? I tried to download it but the bandcamp is gone.
we are all foliage
why is this even an argument?
perfect pussy below fucking beck? who had the most boring album of the year? opinion discarded
But Beck's album was a breathtaking spiritual journey.
Rubberband was really underwhelming IMO, I hate Paris
Even though I still like it and it is good sexytimes music
Just a reminder that the vast majority of these albums won't be remembered in 3 years
u wont be remembered in 3 years
