For these small dudes like B L A C K I E or moodie black you really should buy it. Hopefully everyone in this thread will. I don't want to be that guy, but if someone has less than 5000 likes on facebook and plays shows for crowds of 30-40 people then buying the music is a really big deal.
>>
>>48853647
definitely his best, but mostly because he kinda ditched the "I'M GONNA BE RAW AND LOUD HAHA" thing and actually went toward a more experimental, less straightforward thing. love the horns on it. the drone-y parts remind me of Dalek's Untitled (though not as good because Untitled is a fucking masterpiece)

Yeah, I like it a lot. It sounds like he actually recorded it in a studio. I like some of his older stuff, but it seriously sounds like it was recorded on a cell phone.
>>
>>48853792
i think he wanted that, but that doesn't make it suck any less. Gen is still probably my favorite. his delivery and lyrics are better suited toward the acoustic presentation. a track like The Selfishness Of Evil Men would've sucked with that noisy production, but as an acoustic piece it's pretty compelling
>>
>>48852864
Do you have gen op? There's no download link around as far as I can tell
>>
>>48853872

>>
>>48853822
Yeah. The only thing about this new release is I wish he would have split it up a little more. It's kind of annoying when I'm not listening to the album from front to back. It's like I can't really play my favorite 'track' off of it because they are 16 minutes long.

I know that probably makes me a pleb to /mu/ but that shit is kind of aggravating when I don't want to listen to the album in its entirety.
>>
>>48853913
i get that. I've got a gut feeling that he made them these long tracks for the web release, and the vinyl/tape versions will have actual track listings. He uploaded a video that has a bit of audio from track 2 and a different name, so who knows.
>>
>>48853908
This actually sounds like 320. Or maybe its 256. Idk, but its not 128 so it's good
>>
>>48854065

>>
Anyone have the rest of B L A C K I E's albums? I already got GEN
>>
>>48853822
I feel like I would like Wilderness of North America if he didn't have such shitty recording. Like if the production actually filled out when I listen to it in my car. It's like he recorded the beats on his webcam speaker. Then he recorded himself rapping over the playback on another mic. And then, to ensure minimum quality, he played the songs through his speakers and held his cell phone up to it and put his cell phone copies on the album. Like what the fuck. I get the purpose, but in a genre with people like Death Grips, clipping, Dalek, Moodie Black etc. that all have top notch recording quality I don't want to listen to the obnoxiously lo-fi stuff he puts out
>>
>>48854141
His demo's and ep's are hard to come by. Most were only released on cassette.
>>
>>48854210
exactly. intentionally or not, there's a pretty distinct line between "lo-fi" and "absolutely unlistenable"

can someone tell me about this guy? Ive never listened to him or even looked into him besides OPs share and I thought it was pretty dope. Some shit music blog said this guy was better than Death Grips but I doubt his other shit is as good as his newest album
>>
>>48854210
My cat seems pretty oblivious to music, but whenever I put on B L A C K I E she whines and meows during a couple of the tracks like it hurts her ears or something.
>>
>General sharethread
>B L A C K I E circlejerk
Can we talk about something else now?
>>
>>48854280
Well, the people who say it's better than death grips are super hipsters. They are displeased with the fact that more than 12 people know who death grips are. Aside from that, I really like him. I think he has good flow and his lyrics are cool. It's not that he can't rap, it's like the other anon said before. His recording quality is so lo-fi, and not the cool lo-fi thing. It's so glaringly bad it detracts from the music. This release was a step in the right direction though.
>>
>>48854309
it'd be nice, yeah. most of the reason for that is b/c the OP was supposed to post it in a thread about blackie but the mods got it for some reason
>>
>>48854210
>in a genre with people like (insert bands here)

you say you get the point of lo fi but you prove you actually don't at all
>>
>>48854343
The mods are ridiculous on this board. There's trash threads about kanye ever few hours but they won't delete that. They delete other threads because there was an innocent link posted that they think was viral marketing. I'm convinced that we have the worst janitors.
>>
anybody have that new armand hammer ep?
>>
>>48854400
I do like lo-fi stuff. I know that those artist aren't all very lo-fi, I just meant experimental and noise hop in general. The thing about lo-fi is that it's supposed to take something that is low quality and use that aspect of it to create music. Making your recordings as low quality as possible doesn't necessarily make it a lo-fi masterpiece.
>>
>>48854280
BLACKIE is DG for people who are too contrarian to admit DG is good. I mean it's not bad music the degree to which people will shit themselves over it is totally disproportionate to how good or original the music is.
>>
>>48854403
We probably have the worse janitors but the upside is that they're nowhere to be seen half the time. Remember that day like a week ago where there were like 5 porn threads over as many hours and no one got banned? Also the way they totally backed down on feels threads (supposedly we were going to get rid of feel threads on /mu/ at one point but it's totally failed to happen).

The janitors may be shit but at least we don't have to see much of them.

>The thing about lo-fi is that it's supposed to take something that is low quality and use that aspect of it to create music

no it's not. that's a parameter you put on it to impose objective quality in a style of recording that intentionally aims to take that out of the question. B L A C K I E pushing the lo fi to its unpleasant extremes also has more to do with an aesthetic fetish that is likely personal to him and resonates with those interested in the more extreme forms of distortion often found in noise. the fact that other "experimental hip hop" artists utilize higher recording qualities is irrelevant to what technologies he decides to use and doesn't make what he does any less valuable. saying "I don't get it" is fine but using those other artists to invalidate what he does is ignorant.
>>
>>48854624
First, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lo-fi_music
Second, that's not what I did at all, the point I was making is that if his recordings had the top notch quality that those artist had I would like it more. I like his production, but I wish I could put it on in the car and hear the bass thud and feel the snare and other high frequencies resonate. But no matter how high you turn it up it sounds like it's coming through cheap speakers. I get it, I know he plays shows with stacks off amps and just blast noise while he performs, and that is the style he is going for. The thing is that I still don't like it, and I don't think his quality choices are really paying off. And he confirmed my opinion with his newest release. The quality is much higher than any of his other releases, and I enjoy it so much more. I mean, you're talking to someone who likes B L A C K I E more than the average guy. I listen to most of his music. I don't know why you have to be a dick rider when I criticize something.
>>
>>48854747

I can't fuck with B L A C K I E's old shit but I like this new cut. Mainly because like you said, he makes his songs as low quality as possible. On these new songs not every single sound is as lo-fi as he could possibly make it. It makes lo-fi way more enjoyable when it's mixed with other quality instead of the whole recording being as poor sounding as it can be.
>>
Seeing as noise people are dwelling over here, I'll just say that I've had the hardest time finding nupping and saturday by dope body and if anyone has them I'd be plenty happy about it.

Made a thread but hey I'll post it here too

I just got a leak of Advertising's debut and I'm not on What so I'm sharing it here.
I saw them open for Deerhoof in a basement show in Syracuse and they just opened for Viet Cong a few weeks ago.
Defiantly a band for everyone who is missing Women, same aesthetic and sound almost exactly.
