It's true that he's a culturally significant figure, and I'll give it to him that it takes courage to say and do the things he does. But I'd say he's a very divisive celebrity (much like Michael was, indeed), and at the same time I think he just has a very loyal and outspoken fanbase that doesn't reflect the majority's opinion of him. I think it's a pretty audacious remark but Kanye is a pretty audacious guy. That said, Ye has amassed a great many collaborators in and outside the world of music, be they filmmakers, designers, visual artists. Although his contributions to fashion are spotty, they are definitely memorable and have been commercial successes time and time again. Kanye's production style much like Jackson's developed album to album, evolving and collating different sounds, bringing on new collaborators each time.

I think that Kanye's use of hyperbole is what make's him interesting and I hope he continues to make interesting things.
