What's your favorite album of Rush
>Probably 2112
>>68315748
Either Moving Pictures, or Power Windows. 2112 is really good though.
The first one.
Just straight ahead rock and roll.
No rock opera style story telling especially concerning Greek mythology Hobbit references or Ayn Rand.

You're entitled to your own opinion, but if I wanted to listen to Rush - Rush, I would just put on a Zeppelin track instead.

Some of the songs here are so fucking terrible. What the fuck makes it so good?
It's UK Punk, you have to put yourself in a certain mindset to enjoy it
The mindset of someone with bad taste in music
it's one of the catchiest albums of all time, it's really easy to enjoy.
London Calling, Spanish Bombs and Lost in the Supermarket. Those three songs alone justify the praise it gets in my opinion.
Why can't Bring me the horizon write ONE fucking song without having a breakdown at almost exactly the 1 minute mark? especially on their first two albums, i swear there is not a single song where they don't breakdown at 1 minute
>>68315268
their latest album is literally pop music
no breakdowns whatsoever
>why can't this metalcore band write one song without a breakdown
>why can't this black metal band write one song without tremolo
>why can't this heavy metal band write one song without a lead solo
>why can't this noise rock band play one song without feedback noise
>why can't
why do people get dumb looking tattoo sleeves and stretch their ear lobes? mysteries of the univers
>ITT: guilty pleasures
>guilty pleasure
Honestly, I don't quite understand why anyone would ever admit to having a "guilty pleasure" when it comes to music.
When someone calls something a "guilty pleasure," they're saying much more than just "I like it but it's bad". In reality, they are putting themselves into one of two camps; neither of which are desirable to be in.
>1. The "ironic rockist" - this camp purports to be appreciating music on an intellectual or "deep" level, but shows enjoyment for something does doesn't live up to their poorly contrived notions of artistic evauluation.
>in order to justify this behavior and quell their cognitive dissonance, the rockist will choose to label the piece a "guilty pleasure" and avoid amending their evaluation process to better reflect their actual tastes.
>2. The "real" [insert genre] fan- this camp purports to be appreciating music on a "genuine" or "personal" level, but will prove otherwise through their actions. Much like the ironic rockist, they will achieve a state of cognitive dissonance when they find that they enjoy something not fitting in with the image they desire to project. They settle the dissonance through the justification of it being a "guilty pleasure" while assessing "well everyone has some."
>Oftentimes called such things as "hipsters" or "poseurs," these people are frequently concerned more with the image they gain in the eyes of others rather than the pleasure they derive from the music itself- that is to say, their enjoyment of the art stems almost purely from something outside themself, the art itself, and their sphere of control.
Subscribing to guilty pleasures kills any chance of thought about the medium one is consuming because they're agreeing to pre-made ideas which are not rooted in the self. While a mature music listener will decide what they think about music from within, the rockist is falling to pre-made conceptions which say that something is intrinsically better without actually making any kind of assessment themselves. As such, doing so makes a person an empty vessel for the perceived ideas and opinions of others instead of a source of fresh and stimulating genuine viewpoints.
If someone has opinions that are not their own, why should you respect them over the true source of their opinions? Musically immature behaviors such as those stated above are not accepted by the mature members of /mu/, and never will be.
TL;DR - If you have guilty pleasures, you are a plebeian who should go back to where this behavior is acceptable- namely Reddit.

guilty pleasure is liking something against public opinion

Pretty much it for me
What is the best genre?
depends on the mood
i just long for the days when music was made for white people

World music
It's just interesting to hear how other people sound, their accents, their pronunciations, not being able to understand their language but being able to totally get into their music and feel it regardless of the language.
I've been getting into them lately and wow, they are pretty fucking boring. Aside from singles, everything is bland and uninteresting when compared to other bands like The Doors, Black Sabbath, The Velvet Underground.
What's their appeal? From what I heard, it's just what I imagine dadrock would sound like.
Listen son you're much better off listening to the whole Cream discography especially the second album of Wheels of Fire side two of Goodbye and both volumes of Live Cream since all Lead Blimp did was just try to replicate in the studio what Cream did 1000x better in concert.
>>68314957
>Been getting into them lately
>Wow they are pretty fucking boring
Your statement is a contradiction in terms.
If you're bored by something then you can't get into it.
You sound like a /mu/drone desu. If the only music from the 60s and 70s you can enjoy is 2experimental4u, just give up on the others and listen to Scaruffi-core. Led Zeppelin pretty much invented the sound of hard rock, and were practically virtuosos compared to their peers. Go listen to albums 1-4, there has to be at least something you like.
Yo guys, was wondering
Have a HUGE and well organized music library, still have no division by genre.
Can you help me decide a good number on enough inclusive genres to sort music?
Hard Mode: I have classical, jazz, pop music and ethnic stuff
>Inb4 Genres are useless
I know, I just like to sort my stuff
Art music
Jazz
Traditional folk/regional music
Rhythm & Blues / funk / soul
Rock
Electronica/hip hop
Pop
Noise

I tag my shit from genres that I find on RYM.
How pleb am I?
I just wanna asked ppl who used this system. For the overall scores, what criteria must the album accomplish to get added score? and if so how much? I add 0.5 for each criteria
eg. Flow of an album, album concept, album structure, musical variety between songs, ground breakingness??
anyone else has any idea?
Let's come together and create a proper rating system!
its rated on how much you enjoy listening to it, and how much the music will stick with you. there can't be a real general rating for music because it is subjective. but it is interesting to see how others enjoy it which is why we have these.
>>68314839
yeah that's why I am trying to narrow down this rating system so that we may subjectively score it more accurately for ourselves.
>>68314660
I am really loving this new score system, it's really accurately pointing out exactly how I feel about an album, cause sometimes we get blinded by some really good tracks on the album.
I excluded interludes cause I simply can't score them. But I am happy and satisfied with the overall scores, which is guided by the average core.
>Rolling Stones--Brown Sugar
