C93 is great
>releases masterpiece in 1998
>realizes that it isn't long enough or ambitious enough for it to be his "opus"
>him and most of the band go into hiding, completely off the radar
>researched baroque pop, classical, Scottish folk songs, Russian world music, drone, free improv, and freak folk for years
>all the while writing down every theme that inspires him through his journey
>starts playing some shows with nmh songs so people dont forget about the band, give them the idea that new material may be on the way
>rehearse twelve hours a day captain beefheart style for 18 years
>tease album with drawings
>announce it
>release it
>pitchfork 10/10 bnm
>fantano strong 9
>scaruffi 8/10
how would /mu/ react?
>>68586459

>>68586490
>yfw it's an electro-swing album
All right, /mu/. p4k and fantano haven't rated it yet, so you actually have to think for yourself.
So what do you think?
>>68586400
Not as good as Dive or Awake (although I may be sort of biased since those albums were pretty big parts of my life a few years ago), but its still alright. 7/10
Probably won't relisten to it much though, since I can just listen to the other two albums instead
>>68586400
4/10 and im being polite
Jacques Greene told me it was good so it must be good i guess

Me too actually, haven't given it a listen in a while and recently went back to it, I'm appreciating their songwriting much more than I used to, not sure why. Still feel like the kind of sophisticated tone in her voice takes away from the fun of the music around it
Welcome to the weekly /mu/ jazz Blindfold Test thread. Every Friday and Saturday.
If you're new, the point of these threads is to have fun and encourage critical listening, discussion, and general enjoyment of jazz. All critical music listeners are welcome. The more participation we have, the more fun and successful these threads will be. In the interest of keeping the thread alive and bumped, any general jazz discussion is welcomed here as well.
For more information about how the threads work and listening suggestions, please refer to the pastebin: http://pastebin.com/UiCCG28N
THIS WEEK'S THEME: Vocal Jazz
COMPILED BY: Jazzpossu
NEXT WEEK: ???
COMPILED BY: ???
If you missed last week's thread, DON'T WORRY. It's not too late. Here are the links for the mystery tracklist. Download the tracks, record your thoughts/guesses/evaluations for each one, and then come back and post them in the thread. Remember, people will be posting guesses and thoughts in this thread so don't read the thread until you have listened to the music and collected your thoughts in order to avoid spoilers. Track info for this week's tracks will be posted on Saturday, so if you see the thread is close to dying before then, give it a bump.

Posting with names or tripcodes is encouraged as it makes discussion much easier.
anon with the shitty audio quality piano here, can I post a short 3 min clip of my jazz playing for critique?
>>68586663
I don't see why not. Better wait until jtg is around for best results, though. I'm sure he'll be around in the next couple of hours.

Does anyone know of any social commentary albums released in the past 10 years? We haven't seen too many of those lately. None that comment on any huge cultural events, such as our generation's Vietnam War or the Cold War. I wonder if one could emerge that satirizes or criticizes the recent growth in PC culture. Btw, besides TPABF
>>68586307
That solange album

how was the cold war a huge cultural event

Could I get some recs for some essential older psychedelic rock?
I've already listened to some of the more popular stuff like: the doors s/t and strange days, captain beefheart's safe as milk, cheap thrills, 13th floor elevators, etc
Not really looking for anything in particular but it would be nice to get some stuff that's energetic but still pretty melodic I guess
This one OP! You'll like it
The zombies, Odessa and Oracle
>Doors
>Beefheart
>Psychedelic

What is the best music for enter in a Lovecraftian mood? Just for relaxation or for writing or drawing something on the books tones?
>>68585961
drone, ambient
although i do all my writing to classical pieces and jazz lol
The soundtrack to Reanimator
>>68586462
I tried classical but it swift too much and dont give the exact ambience, in my point of view.
