Now that the smoke has dissipated, and we're close to the first year since he passed away:
Is Blackstar Bowie's Swan Song? Is it be his "Old Man and the Sea"?
Also, general Bowie thread.
Of course it's his swan song. That was the whole point.

It was interesting to listen to the music because he was so painfully aware that he was dying.

Now that the dust has settled can we admit that this man never wrote a single consistent album? That he had one or two good melodies per album? That his musicality was inferior to his fashion? That his voice was quaint? That he necro'd '60s melodies in 20-fucking-16?
Can somebody recommend me albums similar to pic related?
i reccomend this *unzips dick*
I'd like to know this too.
I Was obsessed with this album for a while, around the peak of my depression.

I am a fan of Jazz, Blues Rock and French Techno, but my objective is to be like a slutty Univeristy female student:
"I want to broaden my horizons".
Anything you consider good or worthwhile, please recommend.

If Randy and Alakazam ! are any indication then definitely. I wasn't a huge fan of Safe and Sound though. It's okay but I didn't like the mix or the generic groove on it.

>tfw no one understands the brilliance of Marvin Gaye
It upsets me that when I say I'm a fan everyone thinks I just love the 'let's get it on' cheese.
I know he belongs to a certain era which was very cheesy, but when you take into account how many instruments he played, how much time he spent obsessing over his songs in the studio and how great his voice was, you'll see why I think he was one of the most talented song writers ever.
Only thing that let him down was the shit lyric writing.
You probably won't like it, but why not: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UpNISVciWMs

The Beatles
>lots of pop ditties with mass appeal, simple and accessible
>without George Martin they would be just another pop band
>dated
>super-pleb
>sample lyrics: Ob la di ob la da life goes on bra / La la how the life goes on / Ob la di ob la da life goes on bra / La la how the life goes on
>The fact that so many books still name the Beatles as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" rock band ever only tells you how far rock music still is from becoming a serious art.
Grimes
>deeply emotional and complex sounding tunes with lots of layers
>produces her own music
>modern
>patrician
>sample lyrics: Oh lord cause I don't wanna know what they say / Cause I get carried away / Commodifying all the pain
>Grimes exists on another planet, while everyone else revs up their rocket engines to play catch-up. The word genius is thrown around too lightly these days. Here’s one, right here.
