Getting into Deep Purple lately, really liking their sounds, especially the organ. I've heard someone describe them as a mix of the Beatles and the Doors, which I'm sure will get some annoyed reactions from a few people here. Is this comparison fair, though? Are they just derivative of other bands of the time, or do they bring something different to the table?

Also, does anyone have any recs for similar sounding bands or even some with different sounds that I might be into? I work with a lot of older guys and gals that all went to woodstock, and were super into the music scene back in this era, and it's made me interested in discovering some of the gems.

Have you listened to any Iron Butterfly? To me, they sound like a trippier, slightly heavier version of the Doors. If you want to hear some more of that good organ sound paired with heavy guitar riffs, they might be a good fit.

Steve Howe, has amazing , creative, diverse and unique style, uses hybrid picking amazingly. He made some of the most excellent and joyful riffs I've ever heard. IE the middle acoustic section in the middle of Starship Trooper. For the next, I don't think Eric Johnson has made much great music, but watching him perform Cliffs Of Dover live made me love how he cleanly he plays and with grace and melody. Also Robert Fripp is the most technical player I've seen who also can sound good while playing inhuman riffs.
