ITT: No long /mu/core core
I think it lasted for 3 months
Hospice
So I've been a guitarist for the past 7 years. I've had private lessons and taught myself quite a bit. I'm familiar with blues, classical, rock, punk, pretty much everything but prog and country. I've recently gained a great admiration for jazz music in the past few years- Django, Charlie Christian, Jim Hall, Wes Montgomery, Jobim, etc- and I'd really like to learn how to broaden my horizons.
I took a jazz guitar class in college and it ended up discouraging me more than inspiring me. We spent an entire semester learning Sonnymoon for Two and I really didn't pick up much except for basic jazz chord structure and everything I learned beforehand is absolutely garbage in terms of jazz.
Where do I begin? I'm too poor for sheet music and jazz tabs are hard to come by. You've come through for me before, /mu/.
You know your
Major
Minor
Harmonic minor
Melodic minor scales?
You know about chord substitutions? Primary, secondary, and sub-dominants? And plagal and perfect cadences?
You should have your diatonic chords and their 7ths 9ths 11ths 13ths etc. How to sharp a five, suspend a forth?
Then really important are your 7th and mmaj7 #5 chord arpeggios , they get you out of all sorts of trouble
Then superimposing different scales ( like your melodic minor-up-a-forth technique over a dom 7 13 etc.)
By then play anything, there's no note you couldn't justify, it's up to your imagination
Should do it
Get a good fake book?

I'm about to sound like a dipshit, but
I know major and some minor scales, pentatonic, dorian, spanish, bebop, and lydian.
Honestly, not much of anything else you stated. I read sheet music and everything, but in my actual training most of them failed to teach me anything like that. Granted, I had lessons when I was a teenager just trying to get laid and I was completely clueless to jazz theory when I took jazz guitar in college.
Where should I start?
>>69099067
You're best looking for your local jazz guitarist that gives lessons.
Really, you need arpegios of the seventh chords. The practice sequencing them over a jazz progression,
And... knowing scale shapes over all the different chords, sounds like you sort of do
Try this book and really have a go at understanding it
Draw out your harmonic minor, melodic minor
Practice them every day, you'll be great
do you think musicians casually listens to their own music?
I doubt it, maybe the more egotistical ones do
I used to listen to my own music frantically. Dozens, maybe hundreds of plays. My music still ended up not being very good, though!

I do for like the first month or so after I release it, then I stop.
But that whole time I meticulously pick out why it's shit and why I'm shit
ITT: Early 2000s emo
TBS- Tell All Your Friends
Hawthorne Heights- Silence in Black and White
My Chem- Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge
The Used- In Love and Death
I bought these four albums when I was in 8th grade and it was the beginning of creating my own musical identity beyond the classic rock that my parents got me into. Though I've moved past my emo days, these four albums and many others that came out in the early 2000s are such a part of who I am as a music lover and I will always love it.

Early 2000s?
Objectively, their best album.

Is it just me or does this sound a bit too "digital" don't get me wrong I love the one I have but it doesnt have the analog-ish sound people said it did, again, still love it. Im going to get a Juno 60/6 as well, would this be a good upgrade?
/synth/ general too I guess
>>69098373
Keep in mind the Juno 60 and 6 do not have MIDI capability, though you can buy a retrofit kit to install MIDI ports in them.
>>69098433
Yeah that isnt a worry for me
>>69098373
Run it into a overdrive/fuzz guitar pedal for a warmer tone; MXR, Boss, etc.

>get more groceries get eaten
What did he mean by this?
Humans "get more groceries" so they can stay alive.
All groceries do is "get eaten".

Its a comment on the stark differences between different forms of life in the universe. Some exist to survive, some exist just to service others.
>I pretended I was drunk when I came out to my friends
>I never came out to my friends, when we were all on Skype
What did he mean by this?
With Christmas just around the corner I've been wondering: what is /mu/'s favorite Christmas music?
Also, for your consideration.

Its fucking November.
I can't stand those parties where they put on Phil Spector or the Ronettes or whatever to match the beige 2 piece. I'd put on jeffry or some trap or weezer, have a knees up get out the brown ale

Seems recently /mu/ has gone full circle and the board is having another metal vs indie era.
Must be /nbbmn/ or something bringing all the kids here.
>>69097728
Indie has been replaced by hip hop and rap on /mu/ since p4k and Fantano started shilling it more and giving bad reviews to any indie. Metal has always been a part of /mu/ though, just never on the forefront since it's not as influenced by any outside media.
Where's yours?
