each measure is playing notes in the corresponding chord's scale. if you walk through the Am, G major, Em, F major scales in those positions you'll find that you hit all the notes in the tab

You need to learn about key signatures and what chords are in a key. For instance by the fact there is a G natural chord and an F natural chord in the progression, we can assume the first chord is not implying an A major as these three chords don't go together in any key. So even though it's actually an A5 chord being played, the minor is implied by the context.

I'm not so good at explaining this because I wouldn't sit and it work it out like that at this point, I can just tell by ear that the key of the song is A minor by playing it.
