Can someone tell me why this is the most viewed video on all of youtube?
3.4 billion views
The song & melody isn't catchy at all. It sucks. I've heard way better spanish songs. What caused it to get this many views? or is it just a ploy by his record company and youtube to make it seem as if that many people have viewed his video and this retarded song?

Was this his best work that isn't selected ambient works 85-92?
more like, better than selected ambient works 85-92
No, the Richard D. James Album is.
Nah, most of the diversity on the record comes from its interludes. The crazy acidic attack of the other tracks sounds cool and technical the first time around, but after a while you realize how kinda samey they are compared to the RDJ album which took a much more variable approach. It works much better the way Richard expected people to listen to it (listen through it at your own pace, then make a playlist of your favorite tracks.)
They're dropping something soon...

Let's discuss the superior format. Here are a few questions to get the discussion started.
>what have you purchased recently?
>do you collect for any other format?
>what kind of turntable do you have?
>what is your most valuable (or just your favorite) record that you own?
I've been listening to The Cure a lot lately. I picked up some of those 180 gram reissues, and they sound amazing. I believe they're remastered from the original analog tapes. I'm still waiting for that fucking Loveless reissue that Kevin Shields keeps teasing.
>what have you purchased recently?
Baby Driver OST
Villains by QOTSA
Z by My Morning Jacket
>do you collect for any other format?
I buy a few books and movies, but not enough to say I collect. One physical format hobby is enough and Vinyl doesn't take up as much space as the others do.
>what kind of turntable do you have?
Pro-ject Debut. Weakest link in my stereo setup, but cant see myself upgrading for another year or so
>what is your most valuable (or just your favorite) record that you own?
Favorite would have to be...my Phil Elverum Vinyls. Something about he sells it and packs it all himself, plus they're wonderfully put together.
Bumping for discussion.
Anyone else like this big hunk of plastic?
yeah it's pretty good
Is it true that people didn't care about these when they came out or is it some bullshit myth? I remember hearing some Juan Atkins interview where he said he couldn't wait to get one back in the early 80s because having a programmable drum machine was huge.

I think it was the 303 that was more a piece of cheap garbage in its day.
The 808 was only ever meant to be "affordable" in the sense that it was technically cheaper than a LinnDrum or an Oberheim DMX. The same way that a Jupiter 8 was "cheaper" than an OB-Xa in the day.
Share what you got.
Don't have any but love these so bump
I guess we should just keep posting these threads until someone decides to leak. Keep the dream alive. If you request an invite to a private tracker your Big Idea will be laughed out of the room.
LEAK IT JAMES
LCD Soundsystem is a washed up 40 year hipster making dreadful throwback dance-punk tracks for younger hipsters (particularly New Yorkers) featuring his monotonous voice ranting about how society is like, totally, bogus now. Nobody would ever play that shite in any legitimate club and the fans are all wankers who eat up whatever garbage Pitchfork pretends is the next big thing. I mean, how many of them even know about The Paradise Garage, Ibiza, house music, sound clashes and soundsystem culture, Detroit techno, etc. that the dude is prattling on about and name-dropping in "Losing my Edge"? Very few.

>assuming we go to clubs to listen to this and not parties at your friends downtown loft
He is the most popular critic in the world right now. Every living musician he's ever reviewed has watched his videos. Why don't you respect him? Your favorite artists take his criticisms into account when they record their next album. How does this make you feel?
I like him but there being such a monopoly on the youtube vlog side of reviewing is sub-optimal...
>>74830906
Dude what are you talking about? Any schmuck can get on camera and spout his opinion on anything. It's not like he is the only one producing a product and is charging a ridiculous price for it. If people had a real issue with Fantano someone would have overshadowed him by now. In fact, why don't you try it?
>>74830824
when Based Christgau passes from this mortal realm, Prince Fantano will take the reigns as the Dean of Rock Critics. This is prophecy, not conjecture
