How do I appreciate soul and funk? I've listened to Parliament Funkadelic, Marvin Gaye, Erykah Badu and a few others and it just does absolutely nothing for me at all. I don't want to deny myself 2 whole genres of music, so how do I into funk and soul?

It should. I don't think it was the best album of the year even though I do love Sturgill and have seen him live twice. I liked his first album more although I do love this experimental direction he's taking.

But it's far and away better than the turds shat out by Adele, Drake, Beyonce, and Bieber, his competition.

Help me out /mu/

I'm an Indie musician who has spent the past two or so years touring my home country playing shows. I've honestly never been happier even though I really don't make enough money to survive. I have a part time job at home that covers most of my expenses. I still have to live with my parents to afford my life though.

The other day my dad told me that Imy approaching 25 and will need to think about quitting music. He thinks I'll be too old to do it and I'll never make enough money to survive, let alone support a family. Normally I ignore those kind of comments from other people as I seem to be moving forward despite the fact I'm in a brutally hard industry but the fact that it came from my father kind of threw me.

I really just needed to get this off of my chest. I'll read if anyone has any opinions. Do you think 25 is too old to do professional music?

No idea. Nobody even knows where he is nowadays. I think a few years ago someone confirmed he's still alive, but that is all we know. Other people in the scene might have contact with him, like Keiji Haino, but they'll never tell. He apparently did a lot of drugs back in the day and may still be a junkie now for all we know. I doubt he has written anything, but I just wish we could get an insider knowledge of the band due to how secretive they were. He's probably too afraid to do anything due to his connections with the Japanese Red Army, even though that's been defunct for years now.
