ITT: Artists who were never close to making it big but their fans still act like their international superstars

Funeral Suits
This board knows absolutely nothing about punk rock
I know /mu/ usually posts like Husker Du and Minutemen, artsy fartsy shit with no passion or energy, music to try to impress people
>>69789856
yo /mu/ why do women hate three stooges?
>>69789887
The only people you impress with that shit are thick rimmed glasses wearing nerds majoring in liberal arts
mega?
I made it.
aruba
hey look it's a p4k list we can all agree with
None of those are overrated though.
this is literally just "most popular albums"
>>69789808
>lemonade isnt overrated
Perfect albums don't exi-
this guy makes some pretty stellar music but he has nothing to say... hes probably not very smart.... even weezer has better lyrics
>>69789647
Lol if you really think Tame Impala is any good I have to ask you pollitely to leave my board.
tame impala is slightly above average psych pop, and each of his albums has at least 3 horrible songs
is Annie "St. Vincent" Clark's music mom-core?
I swear most of her listeners that I know of are 30+ year old women
every indie girl at my school liked her and claimed she was their secret lesbian crush or whatever. i think shes pretty good too if a little background music-y
>>69789523
st. vincent is a favortite among gamers :^)
I'm a 48 year old man and I love Saint Vincent. Not sure who you've been talking to OP, lol!
Is he, dare I say it niggers, our guy?

>using the n-word
Back to /pol/

he's a pretentious idiot who's only popular because of edgy contrarians like him
Yes, he is, we need to spread more his word and clean this place of the all plebeians now

Lansky was definitely a big influence on the record, Glass too I suppose, but you can feel him throughout OPN's discography
>tfw Daniel will never make a better song than Along
sorry m8 nothing sounds like r+7
Yasuaki Shimizu - Music For Commercials
Its really good
More like this and Here Come the Warm Jets?
Well start with the obvious ones. David Bowie, Iggy Pop's The Idiot and Lust for Life maybe, Eno's work with David Byrne and maybe some of Byrne's solo work, the first 3 Talking Heads albums, Television's Marquee Moon and Adventure.
And if you like Eno's fuzzy guitars check out some psych rock and especially heavy psych bands from around that time and earlier. Also if you haven't already, Before and After Science and Another Green World. They're different, but still close enough to HCTWJ and TTM.

Hey anon this is pretty shit advice
>>69789831
>posts terrible criticism
>doesn't provide anything to OP
Yeah I think I'm gonna go with "bullshit"
Because I don't, and I feel like I'm missing out on something. I tend to love this style of Post-Punk, but this is mostly lost on me except for a few songs (Beyond Good and Evil, Thief of Fire, We Are Time) which I really like. In what mindset should I listen to it for the rest of it to 'click'?
>>69788946
There's nothing to get
Just a bunch of west-hating socialists who made a pretty mediocre post-punk album

>Just a bunch of west-hating socialists who made a pretty mediocre post-punk album
But I usually love this
>>69788946

name?
My friend and I are musicians, I'm a graphic designer and producer and he's a singer-songwriter. We make decent money now due to digital sales and streaming revenue, maybe about $800 a month solely off of that. I work full time and after paying my monthly bills I don't have much to invest into music promotion. My question is what is the best way to find initial capital to fully launch a full time career? I don't mean being a super star and topping the iTunes charts, but being able to pay for enough promo to make a full time living? It's very possible we just need a couple thousand to really have the fan base shoot up.
Where can I look for the right investors? It's R&B music and it sells great, as soon as they hear it they are going to love it.
I also would appreciate suggestions on how to get a couple thousands quickly other than taking out a couple of credit cards and maxing them out, which seems like the only option right now.
And no this isn't just some kids recording in a house trying to "make it", we are established artists that can sell out shoes in our hometown but not many fans out of state. We have over 300,000 streams on Apple Music, Spotify, Google Play etc. so this is a serious inquiry on how one would find the capital to increase it? And money invested in us would surely be doubled or more.
shark tank obvi anon

And I'm not saying we have the best music out and are instant legends, but the genre of R&B and Hip-Hop that we do is exactly is the kind that is selling hard right now. cc: Drake, Bryson Tiller, The Weeknd, Frank Ocean, Kehlani, PartyNextDoor.
I wish I could sell out shoes.
