Alright /mu/ I have a peculiar situation I need help with.
So I have a go-to band that I show girls I'm talking to. An obscure enough band that nobody would recognize them but universally likeable and upbeat. Well I'm trying to talk to a girl I met through my best friend but the first night of all of us chillin he puts that band on. So now I have to find another equally obscure yet universally likeable and upbeat band so I can show her something new. Any advice/recs, /mu/?
I chuckled

Haha yeah I know it's a pretty weird situation but I have social anxiety and I feel like if I can't dominate the musical aspect of our social hangouts then I have no authority at all within the group and can't be taken seriously.
pls help
>>70075566
what band is it
I really don't understand the love for Grimes on here, or anywhere. It just seems like synth, garageband drum loops and some vaguely acceptable singing. What am I missing? Are you guys just thirsty for women or is there something I'm not hearing?
Pic related it's grimes but better
Visions is really fucking great

It's not the sounds themselves that she uses, but the variety of sources and inventive ways in which she puts them together that truly makes her music magical.
Take my case for example. I am a professional classically trained musician who performs and occasionally composes tradition-minded classical music, but also avoids most classical music as a listener like the plague because the sound of traditional unamplified instruments tends to put me to sleep. At the same I can't stand to listen to most forms of contemporary music because the compositional form and sonic structure tends to be incredibly simplistic (the one recent musical genre that tends to be a general exception to this is new wave and, to a certain extent, synth-pop.)
Now - back to Grimes. Grimes, because of the diversity of her musical tastes both in terms of genre and era, has a very unusual thing going on throughout all of her music compositionally speaking because she tends to favor classical music forms (such as chaconnes like the song 'Be A Body') and sonic structures (such as contrapuntal vocal lead lines in songs like 'Vanessa') but generally tends to use the sounds of modern electronic instruments.
For someone like me, this combination of classically complex sonic structures and forms with contemporary instrumental and vocal sounds (as well as the occasional switcheroo of classical instruments suddenly playing the role of contemporary electronic ones - such as what happens with the violin solo bridge section of the song 'Venus Fly') is truly magical and almost completely unique among composer/performers of today. Grimes' music, if it happens to appeal to your specific tastes, is virtually unlimited in terms of the degree of that appeal. Both because of how expertly and effectively it is executed and because of how rare it is.
How can I become as good as James Ferraro?I'm absolutely serious. He always makes really interesting AND good stuff(without counting hs3 of course) and I'm just amazed how he always do it.
computer programs do half the work
he is absolutely not just sitting down with a pen and staff paper
>>70075438
Just fuck around a lot. James is not that good in the grand scheme of things
I feel like James Ferraro is some kind of joke I'm not in on.
He's fucking awful.
Are there any Metal bands besides Deafheaven trying to innovate in Metal and creating music for people who aren't tryhard edgy neckbeards?
Death Grips
I like Deafheaven don't get me wrong, but they really aren't doing anything that Neige hadn't already done like a decade before Sunbather
>>70075398
>Deafheaven
>Innovative
I like them but they aren't innovative
ALL THESE FLASHIN' LIIIIIIIIGHTS
It was pretty good but I don't think it approached greatness. Sorry anon.
God-tier production isn't everything.
Not the deluxe version doe
Was it good or was it meme?
TKOL seemed like the death knell.
Its got Present Tense on it
Among their best. Top tier Radiohead.
Half the tracklist will be remembered as among Radiohead's absolute best songs.
TKOL was great
What does /mu/ think of Ice Cube's solo albums?
RUN RUN RUN FROM THE GHETTO BIRD
apart from amerikkkas most wanted they're pretty hit or miss
>>70075171
Nah. All his albums up until War & Peace are good albums. Good rapper. One of the best.
He really did sell out though.
first four are great though lethal injection is a bit spotty and a sign of what was to come

I look forward to the bleep bloops.
Is there any device (like mp3s/mp4s) you can recommend where I can run spotify that is NOT on a phone? Max volume is very low on mine and it's uncomfortable using my phone for listening music
Are Apple devices my only alternative? Does it even work on those?
Honestly Apple devices are your best bet. But be careful with volume please. Tinnitus is a horrible thing to suffer through.
you can either plug apeakers directly in through the headphone jack like a GoGroove Robot or whatever its called or you can use bluetooth which is probably already installed on your phone. Then you can basically run it through a stereo system as I understand it but apparently the fidelity can be affected using bluetooth. I havent tried either of these myself.
>>70075006
Yeah I'm careful, I'm not blasting music at insane volumes, but my phone's max volume is really shit. Just one or two more levels would do, I have an old mp3 which I'm happy with and I don't even listen at max volume.
Reminder that NMH double LP is happening
