I don't know shit about music, but I'm thinking, there has to be some theory when making an album tracklist right?
The different songs have different energy, mood or whatever you call it so there have to be patterns for ordering them that are pleasing to the listener.
Radio stations do the same too, they sandwich new songs between two familiar ones etc. Is there some article or infographic about this?
Thanks

Sure but no one does it by any set ideas. Just select tracks to create the mood they want to. DJ's do this on the fly, building to big moments, making sure there's a lull so you can build again, all while gauging crowd reaction.
>>71057717
google beatmatching. Not the same, but close enough in theory as to what you are referring to

I was burning a CD to listen to in the car (which has a bullshit OEM CD player) so it got me thinking there's got to be a better way than just shuffling the songs around.
In marketing there are theories (supposedly) based on consumer behaviour about pretty much everything - the layout of the store, the shelves and what's on them etc. etc.
So there's bound to be something of this sort that producers use to decide how to stack the tracks in an album.
we all have those songs that make OP want to livestream suicide pls help

let's pick someone from this website and make them internet famous.
>musicfags: post a link to your stuff in this thread.
>everyone else: give a (You) to musicfags with music that you like.
within your reply, include something like "voted", "+1", etc. to represent your vote for that person. you can vote for more than one person, but no self-voting is allowed.
the person with the most votes by the time the thread 404's will be the winner. i'll post a new thread afterwards giving congratulations to that person and regarding the follow-up steps on what to do next. if i don't post it shortly after, someone else should.
fuck off

Just listened to this album for the first time today. Didnt expect to like it so much. Nice change from the usual negative/mature sounding music I usually hear.
>song fades out instead of having a proper ending
>song abruptly ends in the chorus

That's not a counter thesis, Scaruffi loves high-art and culture so much he unconsciously has a rockist lens whenever he appreciates electronic music (in the same way, he has a jazz bias when he judges rock; a classical bias when he judges jazz).
Genres like progressive electronic/ambient, IDM, critically-acclaimed techno/breaks in general.. these are merely electronic pursued with rock (via jazz via classical) values.
The terms rockism and poptimism are essentially a contemporary interpretation of what academics call art-music and traditional-music, respectively.
This is their history:
>poptimism is primeval, since traditional-music is one of the earliest forms of communication; "all music is equal" because the listeners themselves are relatively equal in primitive societies
>art-music appears in aristocratic/hierarchical societies; "unequal" since some listeners can afford to listen to more music with better instruments, composers and performers
>basically, folk v.s. classical
>blues v.s. jazz
>rhythm and blues v.s. rock
>EDM v.s. indie/alternative/IDM
>Hampus/Biotrll v.s. CLT
>Turny v.s. that IDM girl
>/daily/ v.s. /classical/
The former are basically for those who find themselves at the bottom of the cultural hierarchy, they are simultaneously listening to what is a sterilised version of the last groundbreaking genre (as say RnB was to jazz, or EDM/disco to [kraut]rock) while missing out on whatever the current new thing is.
So, if I got this straight...
Rockism:
>Judging music based on arbitrary made up standards that have never been supported by anyone other than a few vague implications made up by a couple of journalists and autistic "music" fans
Poptimism:
>Giving all music a fair chance and judging it based on its musical merit regardless of how it's marketed, it's target demographic, or how it was produced
Can someone please explain to me why poptimism is considered a bad thing again? Or why it's even considered an antonym to rockism? Is it just misogyny? Or is it racism? Or is it both?
How about neither?
tl;dr
I listen to what sounds good to me.
I'm sorry, but you got to look at the facts. The best albums in the past decade were all by Neil Cicierega. The fact that some mash-up artist has actually made music good says something. Bring up any artist in the history of music. They're all shit. It doesn't matter if it's Beethoven or Nirvana. Every musical composer was shit, and it takes a mashup artist to make music listenable.
Every composer you say...?
>>71055685
every composer

Validate your point with musical knowledge. I'm curious.
