House, techno, breakbeat, jungle, garage, grime, UK dubstep, and juke/footwork are all inherently incredibly obnoxious and formulaic corporate pop shit pushed by billionaire music executives to be played at EDC and other festivals.
To posit that these "genres" somehow more authentic or of greater quality than trap, big room, tropical house, "brostep" dubstep, or other popular genres in the world of American EDM is ludicrous. They all are cut from exactly the same cloth.

confield isn't a good entry point to autechre, i'd try out LP5 first. confield is a fairly cold album, with emotion that fizzles away just as quickly as it bubbled up. the album focuses heavily on sound design and sample manipulation, and is pretty sparse.
