I can't fucking believe it. A major label hip hop artist is interesting in working with me.
I'm sorry I am not allowed to tell you who it is, but when this deal is all done I'm gonna write a blog post or whatever and tell you everything about this experience.
Now here's where I need your help /mu/. I have absolutely no clue how I can set this deal up. I have no experience in the music business and I don't have a plan how much money it would be reasonable to get for a project of this magnitude.
Here are some infos about this whole thing:
> I am 20, been producing hip hop stuff for about 4-5 years now.
> No fame whatsoever right now.
> First collaboration project with a known artist.
> We'll do 1 track for the beginning and if it bangs, I can expect to work with him in the future more frequently.
> This artist has some A++ connections (I'm talking Kanye West level)
Is he black?

lmao. yeah he is.
No one here can help you
Hey what do you think about this new genre I created named broken word? I have uploaded the first album as well as the first half of the second album for free. They are concept albums about an AI sent from the future in search of her programmer. I am waiting to upload the second half of the new album until I receive donations in order to upgrade my hardware.

i don't really see how this is a new genre but ok
Not sure what you are trying to do. Good concept but the result is not pleasant to the ear.
Maybe try it in another medium like lowpoly CG videos?
It's more of the type of music for intuitives do to it being sci-fi storyline heavy :-P

change name then
For example, pic related.
>drums way too high in the mix
>no bass
>guitars sound like they were recorded on a portable cassette player
'CAUSE METAL IS SHIT, SO IS MIX/MASTER
Guess in the early days they didn't know how to mix metal well.
A lot of albums from that time adopted the flat, compressed New Wave sound which became trendy back then.
Im going by myself to this on Thrusday. Just want to see Death Grips. Recommend me any other bands. Discuss whats your opinion or experiences about going to gigs alone? did you love it did you hate it?
>>71517559
King gizzard

This is not this heat
>>71517559
i am going to the entirety of primavera alone. Gon be amazing.
I prefer going to gigs by myself becazse you feel free as fuck. Free to stand wherever you like, free to go when you don't like something and you aren't obliged to discuss any of your decisions with whomever you're with. Plus I end up losing people anyway since I always end up in the pit.
>>71517706
yeah I think similarly to you but in the other hand it feels pretty anti-social. You can get robbed too. Anyway who cares If I had money I would go the three days by myself too lmao
Its going to be great Ive been at Primavera 7 times before. Hope you enjoy
Is vinyl just a meme for hipsters? I like the idea of owning all of my favourite albums on vinyl, but I worry that doing that is more of a /fa/ decision than a /mu/ decision. Is sound quality any better with vinyl?
meme: BRAAAAP
XD
Not for hipsters. Do it if you want. Sound quality is different.
>Is sound quality any better with vinyl?
That's endlessly debatable. It comes down to preference. I prefer vinyl because it makes me feel more connected to the music. There's something about that pure analog sound that's hard to explain, it's addictive once you experience it. I'm pretty sure the lower frequencies of vinyl have some sort of effect on how you perceive the sound, like micro vibrations you can feel in your jaw. It's definitely a more physical listening experience.
Am I the only one who came to appreciate this album? I considered it to be one of their weakest but I have been listening to it non stop lately. The barebones production is refreshing compared to their other albums and the thread of paranoia and surveillance only becomes more relevant the older the album gets.
ive always thought of it as having the most consistent theme and concept compared to their other albums
the whole schizoid, paranoia, and government surveillance theme is strong throughout the whole album, and the sonic ideas they had for this are very well executed. some of flatlanders best work in on this album and zachs drumming is top notch as always. i also think mc ride's best vocal performance in their entire discography is on come up and get me.
theres also some serious bangers like hunger games, black dice, and pop as well
IMO its their second best after government plates
>>71517320
its their best and everybody knows it
>>71517320
It's perhaps my favorite from their disco and I loved every second of it, even though it had some weaker tracks like Pop and the title one. It was filled with great ones (Stockton, Bass Rattles Stars Out The Sky, Come Up And Get Me, Lil Boy, No Love, World Of Dogs, Hunger Games) and I quite liked the paranoid, almost schizophrenic vibe it gives you.
>Am I the only one who
No, you're not. You're not some special snowflake, since there are over 7 billion people living on this planet and you're not the only one in anything, let alone appreciating a DG record.
why aren't you a lyric person ?
i'm not a lyric person because most of the times the emotion that the melodies make me feel, doesn't match with the shallow lyrics.
and idk i just can't relate to emotions in general. i'm just interested in ambience, atmosphere, melodies, aesthetic.
A really good lyric accompanying just the right music is usually what gives me musical frisson.
But most lyrics aren't that good in my opinion. Many musicians tend to think it's not important.
Also (and this will sound pretentious probably) I find that tying the abstract expression of purely instrumental music to an often more concrete and structured meaning through the use of language destroys a large part of the subjectivity of interpretation that any listener can have in relation to the music, which I think is a bad thing.
>>71517126
What about lyrics that are designed to be nonsense, like (it's probably not the best example) some of the Pixies?

Help I'm writing a paper on the development of Japanese music post-WWII and it's relation to Western music styles so I need to know some of the more important and possibly obscure bands. I know about some 80s city pop/smooth jazz bands and entry level stuff like Fishmans, YMO, Les Rallizes Denudes, etc and a few J-pop names but other than that I'm pretty much clueless. Who are considered the most important/best musicians in Japanese music? Mainly 50-70s because it's hard to find any information on that in English anywhere.
Write something about Kazuki Tomokawa and Kan Mikami for sure.
>>71516784
>le weird subject I nobody knows about XD
why do kids in first college year always do this
pick something you already have a basic knowledge of and that's easy to source you dumbass
that will avoid bored/creeped out looks from other people and a bad grade because you're so bad at making reasearch on your own you have to resort to using 4chan to find someone to go on wikipedia for you
>>71516840
it's for an asian history class so it's not really that weird or off topic
we're supposed to write about some asian art form or cultural tradition and i chose japanese music.
>>71516822
thanks. I'm already finding some good links from these artists.
my knowledge is mostly of the 80s-90s and 2010s. i know some earlier stuff like happy end and kyu sakamato ("sukiyaki") but not much beyond that
>this metal band was heavily influenced by classical composers such as Tchaikovsky and Wagner
which one?
Hey for symphonic metal it'd make sense
It's also entirely possible to take inspiration from things while not resembling them at all. Infinite Jest may be a major inspiration like me but I can't write like David foster Wallace
>metal is classical with distortion
>can't sing at all
>can't play guitar at all
>songs are nothing but socialist whining
>needs some of the best backing musicians in the world to sound even remotely passable
What was the appeal again and why has this guy had his balls licked by music critics and everyone else for 40 years?
