What are your favorite pop punk/emo albums, /mu/? This is my favorite. Its self awareness and tongue in cheek sensibility help make it one of the more elevated works in the genre, I think. There's still plenty of angst there to serve the purpose, but even when he's raging against poseurs like in Admit It!, he's attacking himself.
I think the genre actually has a lot to offer beyond just nostalgia. I think it will be remembered more fondly in the next few years.

This is definitely more goth than I was expecting, but also almost a wagnerian rock element or something? I don't know, it's very theatrical.
Post Rock or Post Punk, which is the better genre?

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Car Seat Headrest. The musicality is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of synthesizers most of the composition will go over a typical listener's head. There's also Will Toledo's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these references, to realize that they're not just simple escapist art- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Car Seat Headrest truly ARE idiots.

OMG this board is fucking retarded
>we are all just shitposting 24/7
This is an absurdist and wank filled approach to music. Production should not matter to the listener. No more do you need to know carpentry to appreciate a fine piece of furniture should you need to know musical production to appreciate a fine piece of music. Producing "art" for your elitist ingroup creates only limits and excuses. It's not that people "can't appreciate" your music, but rather that YOU cannot produce music others can appreciate!

Anything drastically different from this is willful contrarianism.
Sgt. Peppers- 7.5/10 overrated as fuck but really well produced and has some great hits
Pet Sounds- 10/10 some of the most forward-thinking production for its time ever
White Album- 4.5/10 overrated little richard/bill haley ripoffs for over 1/2 of it
Exile- 7/10 solid fun album but didn't need to be a double album with all the unmemorable tracks on it
Revolver- 10/10 the beatles sound at its greatest from all angles
6. Rubber Soul- 8.5/10 great tracks but has some filler
7. London Calling- 9.5/10 fun as hell. Their other albums suck tho
8. Highway 61- 8.5/10 desolation row and like a rolling stone are god tier but it's not the masterpiece on an album scale people crack it up to be
9. Blonde on Blonde-9.5/10 better than hwy in every way
10. What's Going On- 10/10 one of the most beautiful moving albums ever conceived
this is rolling stone top 10 right?
