Has this been the most boring decade for music of the past five decades?
There really hasn't been much innovation or many memorable albums that will be looked back on years later
>>71729958
I have to agree to be fair.
I've always been mad on my music but I've noticed the past several years I've basically listened to no music at all because everything that was coming out just sounded shit.
There's been some killer hardcore and metal albums coming out the past few months though, maybe shit's picking up again.
No
There's been plenty of innovation and memorable albums, you choose not to like them or actively look for them.
Today there are already plenty of albums that are, socially, acclaimed. Here just look at mu core, for other social groups, look at some of the best pop albums over the last 5 decades.
As well you have different regions of the world with memorable albums you havent heard of, but you choose not to listen to it.

Any you'd recommend?
What's Weird Al's fanbase? I used to listen to him when I was a kid and in my teen years but after that I felt odd listening to him around other people. Does he even appeal to the current teens? Or do they prefer kids react and EPIC GAGA PARODY VIDEO stuff on youtube?

they're al weird

He has somehow stayed relevant and all his new shit is exactly as stupid as his old shit. I love him.
I dont think he has stayed relevant with todays teens but they know who he is. I am 21 and still love him, seen him three times and dont care because I think he is funny. But his fanbase is wide enough to where everybody knows who he is.

Thoughts on King Krule?
I like his stuff a lot.
6 feet beneath the moon is prime material for morning lifting.
Really really good. The chords he plays are just beautiful, and i like the fact that his new songs feature sax, he's previously shown his admirations for the Lounge Lizards so i think he's moving in that direction. Not gonna lie the collaboration project he did with his brother was pretty dull and i find it a bit fucking ridiculous it's taking him this long to follow his debut. I also don't like the whole "I smoke the weed all the time, i like the weed". I'm from South East London and his music does speak to me, i think it should speak to most people on /mu. It's about feeling young and afraid of throwing your life away to the mundanities of 9-5 normal life.

Independent labels have a long history of promoting developments in popular music, stretching back to the post-war period in the United States, with labels such as Sun Records, King Records, and Stax.[1]
In the United Kingdom during the 1950s and 1960s, the major record companies had so much power that independent labels struggled to become established. Several British producers and artists launched independent labels as outlets for their work and artists they liked, but the majority failed as commercial ventures and were swallowed up by the majors.[1]
In the United States, independent labels and distributors often banded together to form organizations to promote trade and parity within the industry. The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), famous as the organization behind the Grammy Awards, began in the 1950s as an organization of 25 independent record labels including Herald, Ember, and Atlantic Records. The 1970s saw the founding of the National Association of Independent Record Distributors (NAIRD), which became A2IM in 2004. Smaller organizations also existed including the Independent Music Association (IMA), founded by Don Kulak in the late 1980s. At its zenith, it had 1,000 independent labels on its member rosters. The 1990s brought Affiliated Independent Record Companies (AIRCO), whose most notable member was upstart punk-thrash rock label Mystic Records, and The Independent Music Retailer's Association (IMRA), a short-lived organization founded by Mark Wilkins and Don Kulak. The latter is most notable for a lawsuit involving co-op money it filed on behalf of its member Digital Distributors in conjunction with Warehouse Record Stores.[2] The adjudication of the case grossed $178,000,000 from the distribution arms of major labels. The proceeds were distributed amongst all plaintiffs.

all other are 8/10

this. better than their last two but not the other four
actually enjoy it quite a bit. The lead single had me a bit worried that this would be The Hunter pt. 3 but it sounds different from the last two albums in a good way. Also, the entire band seem to be making contributions to almost every song now and have really refined chemistry it seems. Good for them.

Hey, /mu/. I'm doing an essay on Christian undertones of Sufjan Stevens songs. I know I'm using Casimir Pulaski Day as an example, but I need three more. What other Sufjan songs have Christian themes or deal with his struggles in his walk with God?
Oh, and that other sad song on Illinois is a good example
