I thought this was supposed to be the most insane, technical guitar solo of all time, but a fucking child can play it?
Is Eddie Van Halen an overrated hack?
Maybe the child is good at guitar

>I thought this was supposed to be the most insane, technical guitar solo of all time
What is this, /r/music?
Eruption is actually pretty easy. You can learn it really a few minutes because it's essentially alternating finger-taps. Van Halen always used it as a warm-up exercise and the record producer guys or whatever thought it was cool so they out it in the album.
Can someone rec some good music news / criticism sites now that P4K is well into its zombie era?

That's probably the best article on the site right now.

And Elliott Smith
Why is this considered the worst of the three?
>opener is slow and drone-y without any kind of pay-off
>follows TBK's template
>more ambient and drone sections
>less lyrics, more moaning
>less outlandish instrumentation (mainly dissonant guitar noise)
>less songwriting, more improvised
>rape controversy
>ugly-ass cover
>>71970088
But that's the best of the three.

I mean it could be, I've only listened to the first two, thinking The Seer was pretty good and To Be Kind was amazing. I just wanted to know why some considered a big step down, or why some people prefer it.
ITT: post albums with strong biblical themes and imagery
No Sufjan Stevens or other gay shit about just loving God or whatever
I quite like this one
Become a crystal healer, let your ministry be to the sick.
1. make 1-3 dumbed down albums
2. make an expiremental album
3. get treated like god among men

dumbed down compared to what?

compared to what the band members are actually capable of creating

Better than Daft Punk
They don't have anything in common. One is big beat from the UK and the other is House from France.
You might as well post a picture of Oasis and say "better than Stereolab."
Well yeah, Experience is one of the greatest dance albums ever made
Although it's not really fair comparing a breakbeat hardcore album with a French house act

>both rock
but that would be false anyway
Is music school even worth it? The idea of being able to make a good number of connections and having a good excuse to move to a city is nice, but it seems way to fucking expensive for something you could essentially learn on your own.
You're basically paying to be surrounded by the best musicians in the country and for the connections
It will improve you as a musician much faster than anything else
Just for the connections
I would do a semester or two and then drop out

To Pimp A Butterfly
The Suburbs
The Wall
The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway [Atco, 1974]
I wanted to call this the most readable album since Quadrophenia, but it's only the wordiest--two inner sleeves covered with lyrics and a double-fold that's all small-type libretto. The apparent subject is the symbolic quest of a Puerto Rican hood/street kid/graffiti artist named Rael, but the songs neither shine by themselves nor suggest any thematic insight I'm eager to pursue. For art-rock, though, it's listenable, from Eno treatments to a hook that goes (I'm humming) "on Braw-aw-aw-aw-aw-aw-dway." B-

was John Cale the true brains of the Velvet Underground?
>>71969059
Yes
>>71969059
No, and only hipsters who just found out VU wasn't Lou Reed's backing band think so.
>>71969059
He was the brains behind the interesting side of VU
Lou was the brains behind the pop side of it
Both were equally needed to be VU
