I've kinda given up on Indie and more-or-less Rock music and have been listening to more and more electronic and hip hop, which seem to be doing more interesting things atm. I've liked a decent amount of bands from the past decade, but none of them are that original. Parquet Courts borrow heavily from shit like the Modern Lovers. A lot of the Midwest Emo bands were interesting but after a couple years most of them had broken up or just started sounding alike. Cloud Nothings just rip off 90's indie rock, you get the gist.
What's some interesting, fresh, new rock that doesn't sound just like a recycling of older stuff? Something that is cool and innovative but doesn't fall into the realms of super-artsy experimental circlejerk.

I disagree, there's a lot of good Indie music out there on spotify, bandcamp, youtube, and even your local college radio station, you just gotta dig deeper than Parquet Courts and emo bands. Although, in terms of innovation, im not as big on checking off a p4k list of originality when it comes to what I will listen to

Far as I can tell the mask and outfit are intended as a sort of "non-persona". It's a completely neutral, unrelatable character that detaches the music from himself to stand up on its own.
