I'm old enough to have become an R.E.M fan after the success of Out of Time

Automatic certainly has aged better than Out of Time, but I have to say I prefer basically every older to these two.

That said, there's definitely a nostalgic appeal to this album so I'll likely pick up a new remastered vinyl once I stumble on one in a record store, but I don't think I care enough to seek one out

I don't know if this as an original thought as I haven't really kept up with anything R.E.M related since the 90's, but these days I really feel like Automatic was trying very much to be a better produced and punchier version of Green that basically tried to push harder into directions that Green did - ultimately I think the production is better on a technical level and as said it's a better album than Out of Time, but still it just isn't as good as Green is as an album
