>the Beatles
>need to get consume massive, untold quantities of hallucinogens as a substitute for actual imagination because they are completely devoid of it
>make shitty, mediocre pop even with DUDE LSD LMAO """""enhancing""""" their creativity
>have to stop doing live performances altogether because the shitty, mediocre pop is far too complex for them to perform live; in addition to being shitty performers, they have to rely on studio magic and overproduction to sound good

>King Crimson
>make it a point not to consume any drugs whatsoever
>make elegantly complex rock that pushes the boundaries of its genre without DUDE LSD LMAO """""enhancing""""" their creativity
>flawlessly execute live performances even with these complexities, oftentimes IMPROVING upon studio material in live shows

Why do people enjoy crusty old pop shit like the Beatles when such better alternatives are clearly available?

Why does /mu/ hate pic related? What recent jazz albums are better?
42 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
it doesnt
>>
I honestly don't hate this record at all. But there are a lot better records. Check works of Chris Potter, Dave Holland, Elliott Sharp, Fred Hersch, Seamus Blake, Conrad Herwig etc
>>
>>72957570
I just can't really imagine anybody thinking it's much better than average if they follow current jazz even a little bit.

RYM confirms this. Look at the profiles most of the people giving it four stars and above and most of them have heard less than 10 jazz albums, and almost all from between 1950 - 1970.

>>72957678
Most of these are good suggestions, plus Matthew Shipp, Myra Melford, Tony Malaby, William Parker, Orrin Evans, David Binney, Peter Evans, and Craig Taborn.

This is one of the best albums I've ever heard.

Let's have a vintage J-Funk/J-Pop thread.

That's hardly J-Funk or J-Pop though. I'd definitely put it down as psychedelic folk or maybe enka. Still a good album. If you like that, check out Sai Yoshiko and Morita Doji. Maybe Meiko Kaji too, but she's a bit more spaghetti western.

>tracks all have the exact same length as a randomly chosen Pink Floyd album

The penultimate has always been given more credence than the ultimate in disparate art forms such as prestige television, epic poetry, and romantic comedies. It makes sense that albums follow that same general path.

What's the oldest music you listen to on a somewhat regular basis?

For me, blues and country from the late 20's. Charley Patton, Mississippi John Hurt, Jimmie Rodgers, etc.

Classical.

I only go back about as far as Bruckner and Smetana, though, so mid 19th century
>>
>>72956841
OP here, I meant to say in terms of the age of the recording, not the composition.
