Dogbowl - Cyclops Nuclear Submarine Captain
Did you ever hear the Tragedy of The Black Kids? I thought not. It's not a story the critics would tell you. It is a /mu/ legend. The Black Kids were dark lords of shitty indie pop music, so powerful and terrible that they could use their guitars to influence the vibrations in the air to create sheer aural horror. They had such knowledge of horrible bland indie-pop garbage, they could even use it to get initially positive scores from Pitchfork.com. The dark side of indie pop is a pathway to abilities many consider unnatural. They became so powerful… the only thing they were afraid of was losing their hype, which eventually, of course, they did. Unfortunately, they taught their apprentices everything they knew, then their apprentices took over the charts while they fell from the public consciousness and got a dreaded Joke Negative Review from Pitchfork. Ironic. Pitchfork gave them life, and then Pitchfork took it away.

What does /mu/ think about this album?
It's like the Chronic but worse in every single way.
Only about 2 or 3 of the songs are worth listening to.

A game changer in it's time, but aged very poorly compared to most 90s hip hop. 3rd era gangsta will get it's day in the sun in a year or two if I could guess, as soon as everyone stops hating on Get Rich or Die Tryin.
Whats your favorite song from nonagon infinity /mu / ? Mine is evil death roll
And why cant i play it on my spotify ?

Literally everyone uses this track as an excuse to write off the entire album.
Just goes to show how few people have actually heard the whole thing instead of just repeating the same meme.
How do you qualify good songwriting?
If the lyrical and musical ideas form a cohesive work that serves its purpose and isn't too derivative
Things like strong melodies, effective chord progressions and originality can all contribute
>>73144544
What makes a melody strong or a chord progression effective? Or is it something that has to be heard? I have a hard time explaining why I think certain Beatles songs have very strong and special melodies and chord progressions when people tell me they think the band wrote boring and generic songs.
>>73144578
>What makes a melody strong or a chord progression effective
For melody - can you sing it, is it memorable etc. Does it maintain your interest.
Chords - are they used effectively to build and release tension and to evoke emotions through each chord's unique way it can do so.
Some of The Beatle's early stuff is a bit generic (especially their covers), but they throw in some tight harmonies and some interesting chords that keep things moving along nicely and prevent things from sounding too boring or twee etc. Lennon in particular was great at interesting chord progressions, while McCartney was gifted melodically.
It still is kind of subjective - if somebody finds The Beatles boring, then they're boring. But I think if you consider what they set out to do with their music, they certainly achieved it, and to great acclaim.
What's so wrong with his Beatles essay?
>>73144344
It's award winning
>citation needed
>>73144344
i dont think the beatles are rock, they are pop, if youre trying to compare them to your favorite artist from the 60's and 70's with a guitarist that was shredding and a vocalist that was wailing, its not really fair
that said i truly love the beatles, and i really dont know whats missing in the minds of people who dont appreciate the simple pleasure
i also have a problem with this fag just claiming that its set in stone that duke ellington and coltrane are the best in jazz, like fuck off, there's plenty of room for disagreement there, ellington and coltrane dont even cover all the different sub genres in jazz

Personal AOTY
Nah senpai... it was good! And one of their better albums in a while (besides the cover album of twin peaks) but kind of mediocre in comparison to thier early stuff.
Even when not comparing the album to xiu xiu other greater works and looking at it aside from that fact it's still mediocre art pop.
From what I rmeber it was purposely made more accessible to grow a bigger audience and cause Jamie wanted to make a pop record because he was listening to a lot of Rihanna (you can look it up, not memeing). And no i am not saying that cause it's more accessiable it's bad I mean just listen to fabulous muscles that's easy to digest and really good.

between the new blanck mass or the new endon
probably leaning closer to blanck mass desu i love endon but some of the tracks on it just feel a bit like more typical of the whole post-black metal whatever blah bullshit that's been making the rounds since sunbather. a little disappointed about that desu. still great album though

Am I the only one that feels like a lot of modern 'rappers' should be classified as singers instead?
I feel like dudes like Young Thug and Uzi and Post Malone do a lot more singing than rapping.
theyre pop stars and theyve been that way for a minute

How did Progressive rock go from being one of the best genres of rock music in the 70's to one of the worst ever since the 80's?
Punk.
Also, the best 70s prog rock bands reached their peak during that era. They couldn't progress any further.
>>73144058
Except for King Crimson
>>73144058
This
Also an effort to stay relevant in the 80s by integrating digital effects, samplers, and synthesizers banished many rock bands to the bar circuit for the rest of thier careers
