Punk is a genre now, which inherently makes it safe. It used to be on the edge of what was considered "real rock", now we've long past the point where generic pop musicians copied beats from it.
You don't do punk to break boundaries anymoee, you do it because you like the aesthetic of punk. Meme as it may be, Death Grips is the closest to a "punk" in the modern day, both commercially successful while still circling the boundaries of electronic music.
Why is shoegaze so shit? I've been listening to it for 3 years, there are like 2 or 3 good shoegaze albums.
It makes me giggle when I see shoegaze fans. It makes me laugh when I see shoegaze fans making fun of other people for saying that Loveless is their favourite shoegaze album.
This album is basically the only shoegaze album that matters. Despite the fact it's very influential and there are many ripoffs of this album, it's still unique because none of those shoegaze kids were as good at production as Kevin Shields. The rest of shoegaze is either poor dream pop or poor noise rock.

Listening to music for comfyness is the definition of pleb.
>>73695595
shoegaze is the worst "genre" of rock
>>73695595
souvlaki is pretty well made though
>Listening to music for comfyness is the definition of pleb.
this would be true if coziness was particularly easy to emulate in music. it's a very specific sensation.
otherwise, you're right, kevin shields was pretty much the phil spector of shoegaze production (they both coincidentally utilize(d) "walls of sound" too) and i can't think of anyone that even remotely comes close to his talent and ambition in the genre, especially on loveless.
i think i've said this before but i think it's very sad that loveless stands alone on the shoegaze mountain. the genre has so much obvious potential and yet producers/songwriters are lazy and directionless faggots who clearly just want to get stoned, fuck about with distortion pedals and jerk off to MBV, and it's such an insult to how much blood sweat and tears shields put into loveless.

Just listened to this album. Pretty good, considering I went in with very low expectations

I went in with no expectations and this album was still pretty bad

It's a good album your taste is just bad sorry
>what's the point of nu metal /mu/
>>73695407
for Korn: to express traumatic childhood memories
for Slipknot: to have music to go with their Werewolf: the Apocalypse sessions
generally, to make wacky music with groovy funky riffs
>>73695407
There is no point it sucks
Although SOAD doesn't count as nu metal in my opinion. But it's classified as that for some reason so that's the only one I like
Yeah I like system of a down fucking fight me I can like things.
Oh and Slipknots second album was pretty good and a few of their songs on their first album
I think nu metal sounds like an interesting genre in theory and could be done better. Hybrid theory is a good nu metal album.
What does /mu/ think of Porter Robinson? pic related in particular
I like his music. Can't say much more than that

It's pretty good, and even if i like DnB, the stuff puts a smile on my face
What's with the recent trend of musicians being complete philistines? You would think if they wanted to be businessmen they would have just went into STEM.

>musicians should never use their talents to make money
Wow OP you're right. If someone is really good at something or at marketing it then they should never use that thing to get money. Instead they should get a nice 9 to 5 office job and pursue their passion solely as a hobby (solely making obscure nigh-unlistenable shit 5 people listen to of course, anything else is selling out) and kill themselves before they're 45.
OP I know you got BTFO but listen to the stuff in these videos >>73695271

>Highest rated album overall in 2017
So kendrick really is the greatest of this generation, both commercial and critical success and this album isn't even his best effort.
How can anyone compete?
I've found out recently there are a LOT of redditors who think popularity = quality
It's really pathetic. Like they have no critical thinking and just want to enjoy their shitty music or something.
By getting industry back up from a huge record label like Interscope

Musicians of /mu/ do you have any tactics of self promotion that have worked for you? How do I find listeners?
getting connected with people who make similar stuff; all about who you know in my experience
>putting your music out there
>wanting it to possibly be tainted by plebs/pseuds listening to it
Did Sam Hoidel ever give $3000 to people who promoted MDE World Peace
serious question why are there so many gays and transgendered people making vaporwave?
because it's an effeminate genre
>tfw alt-right redpilled heterosexual white man
>love vaporwave, future funk and vintage japan aesthetics
A lot of it has the anti-capitalist/post-ironic critique of capitalism themes underlying it but a lot of it is just cool music with dope album covers.
