They had a good run from the late-80's through 50,000 B.C in 1997. A lot of their best songs came before Pony Express Record, though - Shake Your Halo Down, Love Catastrophe, Vacation Brain, Summertime Train, etc.

PER was more influenced by Slint/Drive Like Jehu-style math-rock.

Longest album? Not sure about that.
Longest song would be Tubular Bells. Both sides of the album were just two halves of the same song. Mike Oldfield is clinically underrated IMO.
