bad thread

Chillwave can still evolve and Neon Indian's the man leading the charge
he's revived it before he'll do it again
Washed Out tried, but it was too short and not inventive enough, fuck knows what the hell Toro Y Moi is doing, he can do way better if he put his mind to it and stopped making such bland shit
you have to question at this point, who the hell is Toro Y Moi making music for, who's his fanbase
great album but it's not chillwave
45 EPs and singles > LPs
I hate everyone I know who likes them which makes me like them less. Shitty fans, from what I hear the music is fine if you like that synthwave trash
Dark synth isn't a thing
/mu/core phone wallpapers?
this is pretty whack, yo

most of this japanese garbage that weeaboo teenagers shill on /mu/ is
Japanese =/= automatically good
I'll never understand why there's such a hard-on for some people with Japanese music. Music full of gimmicks/novelty stuff instead of actual substance is never really that great, it's shallow now matter how weird or different or interesting it sounds at first. Japanese music is the king of mostly gimmick/novelty with little substance.

Not their best. I prefer the two Ecophony albums.

Ignoring Japanese music is just as bad as blindly praising it. Japan has the second largest music market in the world. It shouldn't be surprising that there's at least some interesting material coming out of it. It's certainly not all gimmicks.
What's your favorite album to listen to when you're feeling sad about things you can't control, such as dying loved ones or failing relationships or pressures to succeed?
I'm going with this one. Corgan's crooning on this one really helps.
Either this (Hope by Manchester Orchestra) or Peripheral Vision by Turnover

>manages to be a better southern rock band than most actual southern bands
You know that besides the Bay Area, LA and the general coastline California is filled with rednecks, right? My family owns a cabin about an hour away from Yosemite, you can see people walking around with Confederate tattoos and be the only one noticing that something's up. My stepmom is Indonesian, my stepbrother's half black, there was a time we waited twenty five minutes to be served in a restaurant that was half empty before we finally just left.

I was quite surprised at the lack of hype prior to the release of this album, and also at the fact that I haven't heard any talk about it since. Any thoughts on why this is? It could have something to do with a quarter of the songs having been released a couple years back.
Anyways, I enjoyed the album. It seems to try to find that middle ground between Love It Love It and Ruth, with the piano and oboe ballads reminiscent of Alice and Gertrude. On the more upbeat tracks, it seems they got complacent with the sing a few lines, throw in a few bars of the horn melody, rinse and repeat, which makes this a fun album, but not one that I think will get too many spins in the future. I am especially fond of the more stripped down songs; Photos From When We Were Young excellently mixes in the brass and winds throughout the track, feeling more natural, along with some of my favorite lyrics on the album. "You let them refer to your lovers as friends, and I wish they could see how it hurt, or affirm your existence with interested words." It seemed Theo really decided to be openly gay on this album, probably in light of the change in social climate since their last record.
Last ditch bump for what was once an oft discussed band here.
>fucking what?
I want to get into electronic music. I've got Ishkur's guide open in one tab but I'm not sure where to start. Ideally I'd like to start as far back as possible, and get a good grasp of the context and history of the different genres before moving forward
tl;dr how do I start listening to electronic music intelligently
Just go through his genres, figure out which one of those you like the most, and start with that. Also the dude's making a new one that might come out at any moment some time soon.
most of these genres are shit. just stick to dubstep and future garage.
I remember that thing.
It's pretty inaccurate and now outdated.
Really just start at popular edm stuff and go from there.
> He collects concert tickets
what's wrong with this?
it feels wrong to just toss it into the trash though
I do the same with movie tickets
>i never went boatin', don't get how they are floatin'
>and sometimes I get so scared of what I can't understand
Why doesn't Miley understand buoyancy?
