You definitely need to listen to the Mollusk, and then Quebec. The order of those two is debateable but they need to be the first two. After that I listened to Pure Guava and then White Pepper but what I should have done was listen to Chocolate and Cheese after those first two. White Pepper isn't the best representation of the rest of their music and Pure Guava was too brown to be my third album, and Chocolate and Cheese would have prepared me for that because it's a nice transition and a god damn good album.
Anyway, after you listen to Chocolate and Cheese you should listen to White Pepper, then Pure Guava and GodWeenSatan and then The Pod. After that you can look up their older albums if you want to hear more of that kind of music, as well as the fucking bazillions of demos and unreleased tracks they have just lying around. Speaking of which, Shinola vol 1 is a great collection of great tracks, but it makes the most sense in the context of having already heard all their albums.
Listen to Twelve Golden Country Greats at your own discretion, it's different but it's still one of their best albums.
Don't bother with La Cucaracha except out of morbid curiosity, the only good tracks on it are My Own Bare Hands and Your Party.

Why does everyone act like this band is some 2DEEP4U shit when it just sounds like buttrock with a few funny time signatures?

I know many people who have otherwise pretty good taste who seem to think these guys are something special. It's some of the most unremarkable shit ive ever heard.
