Folk is just a white guy with an acoustic guitar. Prove me wrong
You're not wrong.
>>74171549
>folk music is just a white person playing acoustic music that isn't bluesy
fify
Sometimes it isn't a guitar and sometimes it isn't a white person. Besides, that's a really shallow, meaningless description, either if it were the case.

That's where it starts and fucking ends. I resent and cannot relate to my genetation. I think about killing myself short-drop hanging style in my closet every single day.

Do lyrics really matter?
>>74171261
vague and cryptic lyrics are always better.
>>74171261
Yes, but not as much as the music.
>>74171285
Wrong. If a singer has something to say, they should say it. if not, they should just vocalize.
Turns out I was leaving out a lot last time and I made a few errors with coasts. Let's try again.
Pick one coast/area. The other albums get erased from history.

How the fuck are you expected to make a living from music these days? Touring and merch?
>>74171071
This isn't the only form of revenue for artists. You've already mentioned a couple. You don't really expect to make a living off of just music. Those who are fortunate enough to become popular and live off their music are in the minority. A lot of musicians, especially those starting out, need to have a day job to support themselves. They do it for the love of the craft.
>>74171071
Artists have never made that much money from their records. Before streaming, the record companies kept a pretty big percentage of the sales. It's always what you said, touring, merch and other things that gave the artists money.
>>74171200
This. It's why so many musicians were and still are against big labels. You basically earn fuck all with them unless you're an absolute mega star.
>knew how to compose music
>knew how to write and read sheet music
>knew how to conduct an orchestra
>still wrote songs about poop and peepee
Name more squandered potential than Zappa

For better and for worse, his musical persona includes an odd aspect: a passion for satirical lyrics. He always seemed more comfortable wearing the clothes of the clown than rewriting the history of music. He always seemed to think of satire as his first and main art, and music as a sort of soundtrack to it. His satirical tone ranged from the childish joke to bitter sarcasm, and he tended to excel at the latter end of the spectrum. His favorite victim was hypocrisy, regardless of how it appears in society. His natural targets were televangelists, corporations, politicians, but also ordinary people, whether "dancing fools", "catholic girls" or "jewish princesses". He showed no mercy for the human species, and relentlessly exposed its vices and perversion. He made fun of virtually every race, people, profession, hobby, habit, job, ideology, religion, etc. on this planet. Most of his repertory is "political", but without actually being militant. Zappa was not a protester or an activist. He was merely a man who used his brain. It turned out that, in one of nature's most bizarre accidents, Zappa the satirical genius shared the same brain with Zappa the musical genius.
