you need to listen super expensive violins 24/7 for 3 months to notice the difference which is very subtle

the expensive sound comes from a resonance called Helmholtz , this resonance only is noticeable on certain notes tho.

You can pick up instruments after 20, but I hope you already know how to read music otherwise it will be more difficult. The hardest part of clarinet is the mid range break so good luck with that.
