Here is the thing: my first sentai was Gokaiger, I enjoyed it a lot.
But I would not recommend it as a first series for other people.

The antagonist group were pretty cool. Not going to argue that they're Jetman's Vyram tier or anything but they were all pretty distinctive and interesting enough.
Akira was great fun whenever he was around too.
Also Wagonbutt and that one shot in the final episode of Kagura clearly stretching the hip area of her suit was nice.

I haven't seen Zyuohger (I'm an mostly 90's sentai fan).

It's everything it does I've seen done better in other sentai. They really hit lighting in a bottle with Zyuranger with the aesthetics IMO.

Again, love the helmet designs and the OP is catchy as fuck though.

Sakamoto's Toei movies always seem to have really bad CG models even for Toei's tokusatsu standards. Don't know why it happens, but it seems pretty consistent and it didn't happen with his Ultraman work. So, I guess it must be a time or budget issue.

Am I the only one who has been struggling with enjoying newer Sentai? The last one I really liked was Go-Busters...I can't seem to like any of the ones after that, but I have no trouble going back and watching Kakuranger or Zyuranger.

While people are scrambling to do Sentai people haven't gotten to yet, they absolutely will not under any circumstances do the same show as another group, to avoid stepping on toes (e.g. the MBE-Nemet Subs incident over Battle Fever J). Not to mention that it takes a lot of time to finish the projects they do have.

Plus the older toku fansubbing scene is mostly dead, it doesn't help that Dead Fish Fansubs' translator only picked episodes he cared about. The fact that Metal Heroes is getting done at all is nothing short of a miracle.

I like how the finisher of the robot was a running slash. Those are the only ones that seem to actually hit the enemy in sentai's mecha battles. I really wish all sword finishers were done like that.

It was more about Toei only caring about getting into the USA market. Even the series brought to those countries were negotiated by third parties (which bought the rights then attempted to sell them through various countries), rather than sold directly by Toei. And Toei didn't seem to care at all about how they were shown, which at times result in stuff like different metal heroes series or Sentai in Brazil running against each other.

For mechs Jetman through Kakuranger, at least the main mechs carriers are always a take it or leave it situation. Ohranger if any of them interest you personally. Carranger and Megaranger are definitely worth it. Gingaman, GogoV and Timeranger are only if you enjoyed the mech designs of the show. Gaoranger through Boukenger are decent with the main mechs, sub mechs are a bit iffy for Dekaranger through Boukenger. There's nothing too special about Gekiranger. Go-onger is OK if you like the base mech but becomes a ginormous clusterfuck with everything attached. Shinkenger base mech and Ebi origami mech are both great but also have the problem that they become gigantic clusterfucks with everything.

As for changers: Accelular and Shinkenger phones are the only ones really fun to fiddle with

there is no such thing, it all depends on what series you like and what you like about them. I collect Ranger Keys, because it is a way to get a little memento of any character you really liked, although some of them a really hard to find at reasonable prices (Mele, Liveman, Dekaswan and master, Battle Fever J, Jetman and many others are ones I am having issues with still). For mechs, the only ones I own are from Kyoryuger and Abaranger, mostly because I really liked the Movie ones, Tobaspino and BakurenOh, and once I had those I was already in and wanted more.
For "roleplay" toys, I get them for a wide variety of reasons, I like the sounds, I like the design, I like the character that used it.

It depends what you want. Some people like roleplay toys, other people like mechs, others like collecting everything of the roleplay side, others like everything of the mech side, others simply like Minipla or Sofubi. It's really up to you with what to collect.

Something to also consider when collecting any of the toys is anything older than 5-10 years is going to be painful price-wise unless you get stuff used. Nowadays we're getting some toys redone via P-Bandai but they're few and far between, and it's more stuff around Zyuranger and above.
