Only the tempest one was worth it and was meh to far because the book explain better tempest backstory and show how grubber isn't a useless comedy relief character. All the other one don't feels like MLP at all.

I mean, come on people, don't introduce a massive macguffin, have a Spirit trip of the previous owner themself warning you about it, and THEN just crush it into little chunks.
I almost get the feeling the IDW staff were trying to do an explanation for where storm king got those green "instantly petrify alicorns" grenades, wrote a plot for it, and then hasbro veto'd them at the last second so they had to destroy the malachite and leave it a shaggy dog story.

Somnambula was a lot of fun. She's clearly meant to be the Egyptian equivalent of Pinkie Pie, so that's a win right there, and I like how her initial ditziness turns into forward thinking at the end.
One has to question the logic of making a snake BIGGER in order to get rid of it. Silly wizard guy.

I would if I could Anon, sorry. I was using iTunes for a while with a consistent resolution then the Mac VM I was using broke for some reason and now I'm back to using Kindle and Calibre for the comics. Calibre is weird and spits out odd resolutions and I've never been able to figure out if it's the source or Calibre that's the fault, but it works well enough I think. I'm always open to ideas to improve if anyone has them though.

I actually enjoyed her prequel book better. The timeline was wonky what with her age and all three princesses at the beginning but at least it dove into the actual event that set Tempest upon her entire journey, and her decision to help the Storm King in the end of that one came off as much more understandable. She had felt she was already doomed when she helped to overthrow the Hippogriffs, and thought that there was truly no way out. That she had done the unacceptable and could only go further in from that point on, which is why she sold out her country.
Here in the comic, she just does it straight out. There is no build up of despair or sensation of having no other way or desperation she just, almost immediately offers to turn over Equestria to him. I've said before that I have zero sympathy for Tempest as a tragic character given the majority of her life's miseries are her own to blame, and all the more so after seeing Rambler willingly offer to drive off the Storm Creatures to help her and then turn her back on her own kind after that.Having read the junior novel as well, I can say that Storm King is far more intimidating in these comics than he ends up being in the actual movie too.That the Malachite led nowhere is a bit of a bummer too, I think all in all I rate this one either a little above or a little below Capper's, and if above it's strictly because of Storm King.

The better of the two stories for me today, I think I like her actual legend a lot more from the show since the feeling of hope and faith is stronger when fighting the sphinx than fighting this snake (in which she is almost TOO damn optimistic in her approach), but it is entertaining at the least. Somnambula is a qt but she certain comes off as a bit more air-headed than the Daring Do episode seemed to let on. Still, a solid issue, I think it rates bout the same as Rockhoof's for me

I get dissapointed everytime I try and hold out that something won't be as shitty as I'm expecting, and get dissapointed pretty much every time, but I usually still try on principal. Frankly, Tempest as questioning her place and future, and the Storm King as a power-hungry but fair ruler, are vastly more interesting than either of their film incarnations (if the chapter book is anything to judge by).
That said, this character definitely did need more time to develop; we go from seeing her as questioning to straight-up betraying Rambler with zero time in between. There needed to be something that drove her to believe going it alone is the best way and friends cannot be relied on. As is, nothing here actually provides motivation for her actions (interesting as they may be).

There wasn't really much else to say about this one - it didn't really introduce anything, nor really give us insights into her character or the world. Unlike the Rockhoof one, it didn't even really teach an important lesson (except, maybe, that unicorns are useless). But it was a fun little read, and I found myself smiling at the end of it.
Honestly, they seem to have captured a touch of that slightly-grating-but-ultimately-helpful Pinkie that so many of even the show writers miss. In some ways it felt like a turn-back-the-clock moment to earlier days of Pinkie writing.

It feels weird to read the last part of the Prequel now, I wish they had released this before the two novels. I liked Tempest characterization better in the The Stormy Road to Canterlot, but other than that I liked this comic, and Andy's art was noticeably better here than in the previous pony-free comics.
Overall, I think that the prequel series does a good job at introducing all these new characters and making them interesting. I specially enjoyed Storm King here, I hope the Storm King in the movie is more like this Storm King rather than like the Storm King in the novelization.

I still think it's better for Anons to see the comics and books uploaded in full so they can only buy what they like. The alternative is to go in blind, buy something they'll hate, then never be able to trust the books/comics enough again to buy ones that are actually decent. I recently realized the difference between old Pinkie and new Pinkie (aside from the screaming), old Pinkie often went off into nonsensical rants and non-sequiturs that either ultimately lead to the solution or at least were fun to listen to, new Pinkie just keeps stating the obvious and acting wacky.

I get the feeling that the plushies in that may be the only useful thing to get out of that purchase. Photoshop has a magic wand tool that can select everything within a certain color tolerance, as in pic related, and after that I just use the lasso selection tool to manually clean up any color that's left outside the black edges. Usually I do that by putting a black background on it and cutting till it's not as colorful on the edges. Sometimes I reconstruct the edges if there's a text bubble or something over them or if I cut too much edge out of some places accidentally and a 2 pixel airbrush does well at that.
