Damn straight, I personally prefer swords and medieval weapons because I'm a euroboo but I won't deny I get a massive hardon for blackpowder muzzleloaders be they rifles or muskets.

Anyway, been poorfag since forever and can't really afford bullets so I pooled enough money to get a handgonne, a fully cast barrel and I've already prepped the stock. Got a .75 ball mold and all the ingredients to make some powder. Someday (ie. when I have enough money) I hope to build a wheellock pistol and ideally get some part engraved wit muh waifu

That's one way to look at it. Another way to look at it is that the maker realizes that they're making a cheap gun that will likely be bought by a first-timer, and put that little "read manual before operating" disclaimer on there to help the user, just as we do with cars or assorted electronics.

There have been days long arguments about whether or not the modern American military industrial complex could take out the pone kingdoms. For a little while there was a general about Anon explaining military history to Sunbutt. At least four or five guys on active duty post here, one of whom wrote a Mortal Kombat krossover from Korea. There have been intricate discussions about Tsar bombs. Back when Strel was alive, he'd scream about drinking horses and killing Chechens.

We're decently /k/ when we need to be.

Mine was $120, but it came with the sights already zeroed PLUS a trigger job, so it was a nice deal overall. And nicer than I expected, since this one was apparently taken care of a bit more than the others.

Garand, PSL/VEPR, and maybe a fair AR are on my wishlists. But I'm too much of a poorfag right now to seriously get one any time soon. I may get a Tokorev just for kicks though. Mostly because my LGS has actual tins of 7.62x25 surplus for $80... And I'm a sucker for the more historic and simple designs that may be a tad overrated, but still good.

Well that depends. Sure revolvers tend to have worse recoil, and they obviously have lower capacities than many guns (though the Colt 1911 is classically 7 shots, 1 up from a 6-shot revolver) and slower to reload.
But they're much easier to clean, much harder to break, much less susceptible to malfunction from dirt or shock, and you can leave them sitting for a year loaded without having to worry about magazine springs.
>>
>>25348491
Actually it's constantly loading and unloading a magazine that makes the spring wear out, more so than just loading it and leaving it.

Someday I'd like to get an M1 Garand and a shotgun, something like an 870, and a Beretta 92, but other things have taken priority, like saving for a house. Also there's a lot of red tape to go through for a pistol in NY.

Man I know that feel. Every Saturday there is a line at the local Walmart for people who buys up all the 9mm and 22lr rounds. I mean seriously, I want to get a decent gun that I can shoot often and cheaply while still capable of home defense, but none of that matters if the ammo is all bought up as soon as they hit the shelves.
>>25357022
Where do you even get to shoot those?

Actually, where can anyone shoot a gun that isn't a indoor range? I heard of people shooting in their backyard, but I assume that is because they have 10 acres to their property or something.
>>
>>25356860
...a Kahr? Which model, just curious? How well does yours run?

My EDC is a CW9. In the first few hundred rounds I had a few failures to go fully into battery and a couple of failures to reset the trigger but no problems since it broke in.

>Jericho 941
>failures-to-eject

9mm or .41 AE?

What weight recoil spring are you running? 16 pounds is about right in 9mm, maybe 18 if you're shooting the really hot stuff--surplus SMG ammo, etc.--and in .41, I've been told a 22 pound spring is needed just to keep it from peening the frame.

In some parts of the US there are outdoor ranges open to the public, usually run by the local state Department of Natural Resources. This time of year is the busiest for them, generally, what with deer season about to begin.

There are also private firearms clubs with private ranges, but it's very difficult to become a member--it can cost $2000 a year in dues, or more, plus being a member usually automatically commits you to work X number of days per year swapping targets in the target pits for highpower rifle competition, or cleaning up trash, etc. Plus you generally have to have several members vouch for you--you can't just walk in and say "lol I wanna shoot."
>>
>>25357090
Most of the indoor ranges near me will allow rifles and can accommodate 25-50 yards indoor, which is usually fine for function check, drills, zero on some guns. Around me there are about 3 outdoor ranges that go up to 100 and 200 yards, plus the DNR maintains 100 and 50 yard ranges. I have also shot on private property, finding a spot with a backstop isn't usually the issue, it's usually noise.

>>25357143
A CW9 as well. I did not have any issues during the break in period, only time I've managed to get it to jam is when racking the slide as opposed using the release. It is as the manual states pretty stiff and can jam unless you rack it with authority and don't ride it forward at all. The steep feed angle and short slide travel distance are unforgiving if you slow the slide down. Other wise like it a lot, but I am finding that I want a slightly larger gun for EDC. Perfect size for t-shirt weather and in dress clothes though.

2000 grand? Sheet, for that I could join both the indoor range in Philly and both of my local outdoor ranges. You do generally need someone to vouch for you, but I have found the ROs to be pretty good about it if you don't know any members.
>>
>>25357211
ah. For me the CW9 absolutely requires a holster. It's too big for pocket carry. I was thinking of maybe the CT380, though I don't have much faith in the .380 cartridge. The CT380 fits in my pockets, the CW9 is just the tiniest bit too big.

Do you find you have to stage the trigger to get decent accuracy? I have found a way of holding the CW9 so that my index finger touches the frame just a moment before the striker drops, allowing me to take a moment to align the shot. It is not, of course, as fast or as easy to do well under stress as a single action, but--

9mm. I got a replacement guide rod form here because the stock one was a little messed up.
http://www.zahal.org/products/recoil-reduction-system-for-all-jericho-941-baby-eagle
Might need to be broken in more too, I have no idea how much (or little) it was fired when in possession of the israeli police force or when it changed hands before it went into mine.
>>
>>25357283
Hmm. I don't know what the quality of that guide rod system is. I've not seen any reviews.

I have an ex-Israeli law enforcement Browning Hi-Power, one that is a mishmash of mismatched Mark II and Mark III parts, with a lanyard loop. I had my gunsmith replace all the springs with new ones, and install a Cylinder & Slide tool steel hammer and sear, and a Cylinder & Slide wide target trigger. It's my nicest shooting 9mm and it's the one I'd grab in the event of the Zombie Apocalypse(tm). Interestingly, it's 100% reliable with the Mec-Gar 15rd mags, which not all Hi-Powers are.

I do wish Mec-Gar would make an "Optimum" line mag for the BHP, with the black teflon finish on the mag tube and the +2 extended floorplate. That'd be 17+1.

I use a hybrid leather/kydex holster that's tuckable. Blousing a shirt or wearing a slightly larger t-shirt does a solid job of hiding it. A good belt worn close to the hip does a lot of good too.

As for the trigger, I treat it kind of like a snubby and don't do all that much shooting of it over 15-20 yards. More important that the pull is smooth but I also don't usually try to put up bullseye groups with it. Upper torso at good speed is what it's for so that's what I practice. Staging it though is somewhat doable and at some range up in the Poconos I was able to get most on a 4in steel at about 35yards. So it is capable of that.
>>
>>25357373
I imagine its stiff guiderod springs. I only put 300 rounds through it since I swapped them out.
>>
>>25357383
I suppose I need more practice.

If you're getting hits on a 4" target at 35 yards then you're doing much better than I am.

My best 25 yard groups for 10 shots are around 5", this with a Ruger .22 target pistol. I can get ten in 3 1/4" at 50 feet, in slow fire, if there are no distractions (guy in the next lane with a short-barreled AR and a flame-throwing, eardrum-rupturing "muzzle brake," etc.) and I hold my mouth just right.
>>
Then are there any decent 9mm pistols that I can use for a very long time, that isn't more than 500USD?
>>
>>25357506
A glock 17 or 19 is around $600, a little more expensive but they will serve you very well.
>>
>>25357530
Just barely out of my price range enough for me to consider getting it.

Though for some reason, I am having this irrational fear of poking my eye out with those corners the glock has. MIGHTY BOX GUN.

What if both my father and my brother was/is in service, so I want to get a gun that is familiar to them?
>>
>>25357506
There are lots of 'em.

New, in your price range, maybe a Springfield XD, or a Ruger SR9E, or a S&W SW9VE, if you want a new gun.

Used? You have lots more choices. I don't want to be accused of shilling, but right now you might want to look around AIM Surplus, Bud's Gun Shop, J&G Sales, Summit Gun Broker, and maybe Widener's. They all have Web pages. Google for 'em. Look specifically for traded-in cop guns. Police departments in the US are constantly swapping back and forth between the polymer-framed S&W Military & Police models and Glocks. Lots of guns, some of them never carried or fired, are constantly being sold off as surplus. Your tax dollars hard at work--but it means bargains too.
>>
>>25357566
>What if both my father and my brother was/is in service, so I want to get a gun that is familiar to them?

Beretta 92F. They run around $600-700 new, occasionally you see used ones as low as $400 but at that price they may be a bit beaten-up in appearance, with holster wear on the sides of the slide. They generally still work though.
>>
>>25357566
US military service you mean?

Well infantry don't carry handguns, but the service pistol is the M9, $600-$800
The closest gun you could get that's not an M9 would be the Beretta 92FS, $600-$700

I mean, that's taking time with it. If you spend 10 seconds on a shot a lot is doable. I was out with friends this July and after dicking around a bit we were able to hit 12 and 8in targets at about 100 with pistols. Took several cylinders to walk it in but me and another guy were able to hit steel with snubbies. Take your time and channel Hickock45.

>>25357506
>>25357566
In no particular order:
Caniks (CZ clone)
Arcus (Hi Power Clone)
S&W 5906, found used all the time under 400
Sig 2022
M&P
Used Glocks (Lots of police turn ins with lots of holster wear, .40 in particular showing up a lot as they switch to 9mm)
S&W Sigma but do yourself a favor and eventually get the Apex trigger and springs.

A brand new Beretta 92 is about 600 or so, but there are plenty of used ones around.

Buy used. Used guns are not like used cars. Sometimes they're perfect as is condition. Other times they might need a new spring or inexpensive part. Guns are designed to take a shitton of beatings and still work under harsh conditions, often nothing a safe queen will ever put it to. Most used guns are safe queens, bought during a phase and then sold as the owner reduces his inventory.

Korean? Hmm, I think the K5 is mechanically very close to the S&W 5906. But generally if you stuck with any double action/single action metal framed pistol (Sig, CZ, older S&W autos, Beretta, etc.) they are going to all operate in similar fashions.

In that case they used a Daewoo K5, there's a civilian reproduction called the DP-51 that's a bit hard to find but seems to only run for about $300 when you can find one.
Also like I said, if they were just infantry chances are they didn't have handguns, so really any pistol would do.
>>

If their service was post-1990 probably a Daewoo K5:

Exported to the US as the Daewoo DP51. They're actually kind of uncommon in the US.

Are you saying not to buy a used car?
>>
>>25357901
No. But I wouldn't buy one blindly. I would test drive a used car, inspect it, reseach its records, etc. You don't know how many other drivers it had and what they did to it. If its been in an accident, if its had any major repairs.
A gun, OTOH, is a very simple, straightforward tool. Wear and tear is obvious in most cases and the mechanisms that require it to work are very simple to maintain and if necessary, replace.

I made the used car comparison due to how complicated a car is, not because used cars are bad

Canadafag here, lemme give you the rundown:
>Find local gunstore that offers PAL/RPAL tests
>Sign up for both (altogether will cost about $150)
>Go to the classes and take the test at the end, read the books they gave you when you payed
>PAL class takes about 8 hours, RPAL takes 5
>Pass test
>Get all your paperwork together (read it in the class and ask the instructor any questions you may have, it's generally pretty straight forward though)
>Mail it to the address listed
>Wait for about 3 months (that's how long it took to get mine at least, your time may vary)
>Get License
>At this point thanks to the books and the RCMP website you should have a pretty good understanding of how to get a restricted gun, non-restricted guns are pretty much just a walk in, walk out deal
>If you have questions ask /k/ or send a question to the email on the RCMP site
Pretty easy honestly, the test is a joke, if you have a clean criminal record it's just a matter of wait for the RCMP to reluctantly process your paperwork
>>
>>25357952
>wait for the RCMP to reluctantly process
How dare you speak ill of our benevolent RCMP overlords

The fact is we don't NEED guns, and if the RCMP says something is too dangerous for civilians to own, then we are not to question them. They are experts on firearms.

You would have to check the state laws specific to Indiana in regards to purchasing, ownership, carry, and so on. To be honest, I really doubt IL has a carry permit recognized in all 50 states. It's a state to state thing, so that would require them to have an reciprocation agreement for every state. Indiana is probably pretty permissive on ownership though.

For carry in Indiana:
http://concealcarryhq.net/concealed-carry-reciprocity-information/indiana-concealed-carry-reciprocity/

Same for IL:

Looks like Indiana is recognized by more states.
