Do you think Glimgollum did this just to stop the Rainboom, or did she also genuinely care about Fluttershy being bullied?
I mean that would make sense in the context of two things:
1) She said that she still cared about equality earlier when ranting to Twilight
2) This was her redemption episode so that would make Poochie more sympathetic
Depending how you look at it, this moment is either a brilliant instance of a villain making a hero question their ways if even slightly (if Glimmer did want to help Fluttershy), or simply wasted potential (if Glimmer didn't care about her). I wish the writing was better and the point of this scene was more clear.
If anything, giving Glimgollum moments where she would genuinely showcase good intentions and using THAT as a basis to redeem her would make her much more likeable as a character overall. I'm amazed at how much of hack Haber had to be to miss such an easy way to make a compelling redemption arc.

Holy macaroni, this board is bananas! There are actual people who still haven't caught onto the fact that Starlight Glimmer is the best character. Who could forget when she first moved to Ponyville and discovered the Mane 7 were the Elements of Harmony by herself? Let's not forget how graceful she was at the Gala while the others made complete jackasses of themselves! Plus there were those awesome times in the Labyrinth and at Twilight's brother's wedding where she proved she was top tier main character above everypony else! Heck, she's the reason Twilight is a princess and the Mane 7 now have a castle! Oh, and those times when Twilight went mad, started a cult and tried to erase thei friendship from history? Mmf, perfection! Basically, what I'm saying is, if you have a favourite character that isn't Starlight, that's fine, but it's literally impossible to deny that she's the BEST character on the show!

After a long study into mlp roleplay I've come to the conclusion that these are the necessary cancers needed to fit in

EQG4 is a giant allegory for puberty

First, the movie takes place at a summer camp, which is obviously a classic backdrop for coming of age stories

Our hero Twilight is struggling with a "darkness" coming up from inside her that she doesn't understand and can't fight.

Que the song "Midnight in me" in which twilight sings the lyrics "I didn't know what I didn't know". That's obvious enough, i won't even explain that one.

Soon, her friends are also experiencing the effects of this darkness and no one knows how to handle it.

Que the song Embrace the magic in which sunset convinces the group that this new change isn't something to be afraid of

Then you have Filthy Rich and Gloriosa. Filthy Rich represent all the unfairness of the world, and Gloriosa represents the anger that young teenagers have toward it, and their desire to lash out against it.

The final showdown is literally a showdown between handling your problems with a level head versus handling them with violence and anger, with the final moral being to not fall into the pitfalls of teen angst and despair.
