Was Countess Coloratura a persona long in development? She's been built up to the point where she became the top pop star in Equestria, but every pony starts out somewhere. When she was looking for a break in Manehattan, she may have been presenting herself more along the lines of her camping days that Applejack remembered so fondly. Her talent was bound to shine through to ponies like Svengallop, but some additional vision would be necessary to mold her image - and sound with it.
